Saw that on the big screen in about 1970 if I remember correctly!

Probably would've given it an 8/10 at the time.

That reminds me of that era. Having a chat with number two son earlier about the film, Gone in 60 Seconds and informed him of the original in the early 70s which he hadn't heard of.
I'm sure he will have a look now as I told him of the 40 minute car chase and roughly 100 cars wrecked while making it!

Arrr! So that's where it's from...

.. I'd heard my dad quote that many a time and had no idea what he was on about.

So it's a film about cars then? I'm guessing a true PH'er should already know that, I'd better check it out.

Watched it a couple of days ago. It's a really shame MJF was stopped so early in his career, he's very easy to watch.
He is still active. Appears frequently in The Good Wife (which is an excellent show with a rubbish name).
That's good to know, I knew he was still doing voice stuff and writing but didn't think he was up to acting any more.

Atomic Blonde

Good cast and action sequences with gritty plot.

It is violent but verging on almost comedic in the number of serious hits people could take and get back up again..

American Pie on Sunday night.

Meant to be a comedy classic. I think I must be getting old.

A generous 3/10
I know what you mean. What seems fresh, humorous and cutting edge at the time seems a bit tedious and stupid now.

Raises a few smiles but nothing like it did when it was first released.
Typical American college kid angst bubble gum bullst. It's so formulaic, something we have all seen a hundred times. Not even remotely funny compared to classics like Porkies.

He has featured in Kerb Your Enthusiasm too.

I thought I'd agree but bought a copy of Porkies and it really isn't that good all these years later and the humour is of the time just like American Pie.

At least the American Pie actors don't look like 25 year old high schoolers.

I must admit I really , really loathed this film.Paper thin plot , cartoon violence and gratuitous girl on girl action with Cameron Diaz not enough to redeem a generic pile of tosh. Like an 80s MTV video which lasted 1 hour 52 minutes too long .

Anorak alert - the MGB GT pictured in opening scene in London was flawed - it had an E prefix (88-ish ) when the last B was ,made in 80 , so a V suffix . But the car was also chrome bumper - so pre 73-ish The XJS in same scene was also in quad light US spec . I should get out more ....

If the E prefix was at the end then it is 68 ish, 20 years before.

Watching Warrior. Amazing movie.
I did like that myself, excellent watch. I'm pretty sure the whole movie was about PTSD as well, but nobody seems to mention it in any review.

There is a cut scene I found somewhere where the dad, Nolte, is telling Tommy about his time in Vietnam. I can't imagine why they cut it, as it does give a bit of a view into his own problems.

I started watching Alien Covenant last night.

Oh dear.... interplanetary trip... cryogenics......mishap....spot a planet ten miles away that is as habitable as earth.. that they missed while planning their year trip to another planet as habitable as Earth....

.....into orbit, land ten minutes later, dressed like a bunch of mercenaries rather than international space travellers..... open door two minutes after landing, armed to the teeth with shot guns........

Then I fell asleep.

E was an unusual prefix as it only had a 6 month life- Jan- July 67. Pedant ,moi ?

It does have an amazing car chase with the driver on the road below following a train on the overhead tracks. The main story line is about an illegal drug importation into New York. Based on a true story with the 'real cops' from the actual 1962 operation playing detectives in the movie.

It won loads of awards, oscars, golden globes BAFTA etc.

Isn't it true (and I'm open to correction) that William Friedkin thought it would be too much hassle to get permits for the car chases, so just filmed them without asking, on a Sunday morning when it would be quiet, IIRC?

It won best pcture and best actor (Gene Hackman) Oscars.
and the crashes in the car chase were supposed to be near misses, and the extras in that whole chase aren't extras, they're members of the public that happened to be there whilst it was being filmed in and amongst normal everyday goings on. The whole thing was extremely ad hoc.
Mental.
