Holidays always mean plenty of films get watched!

Going In Style - Old guys (Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Alan Arkin) rob a bank after their pensions are rendered worthless. Undemanding fair, perfect for a flight on a plane.

Pirates of the Carribbean - Latest one - By the numbers film. The first one was so good, but it's been a steady downhill slide since.

Life - Like a Sci-Fi Channel remake of Alien really... Not sure why they bothered (although falling asleep for chunks of it may not have helped...)

B29 - Frozen In Time - Documentary about the efforts to salvage a Superfortress from Greenland - It's really rather shocking and sad at times, better than any of the 3 films above! You can watch it on YouTube! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CE9j-W_8USw

Passengers - Enjoyable enough Sci-Fi film. Maybe not (well definitely not, on reflection) as good as the premise offered, but I quite enjoyed it.

Williams - Really excellent documentary on the Williams team (and family) - Very honest and raw film - Far, far, far better than the Senna movie in providing an insight into the man (FW in this case, AS in that).

Everest - Sad dramatised true story of the 'commercialisation of Everest' and what can go wrong. Enjoyable may be the wrong word, but worth a watch.

Eye in the Sky - Interesting premise - Flawed in parts (Teary eyed drone pilots? I think not), but still worth a watch.

The Accountant

Reading the blurb on the cover I thought I would probably enjoy it.
Didn't expect to enjoy it so much.

They made a TV series with Ryan Phillipe but it sounds like it's a bit rubbish.

Watched the film too recently (because Amazon prime has sod all decent to watch) and enjoyed it. Nothing special or all that memorable but it was entertaining at the time.

Any film recommendations for tonight on Netflix or Amazon Prime suitable for my 20 year old daughter and me, (preferably one that I can enjoy so please no crappy teenage type rom-coms!).

Urgh Long red eye flight.

Transcendence - thought i'd seen it before. Watched it anyway, still can't be sure if I have or not. It wasn't very good anyway. 5/10

The Mummy (Tom Cruise one) - Awful. Granted it was at the height of my sleepiness and I missed the end. And the 20 min filmed in darkness i couldn't see much either. 3/10

The Man who Knew Infinity - I'd had a sleep so did manage to stay awake. Predictable but enjoyable. 6.89 / 10

I hope they've got something better for the return journey on Thursday night.

Surely they should have something more upto date than Ronin. (They did have the original Alien too)

Today is the 30th Anniversary of the release of The Princess Bride. So I would recommend that. smile

The TV series is actually pretty reasonable. Season one is based on the same basic premise as the film but not a replica. And Ryan Phillipe is better in the role than Marky Mark was.

Just watching that now, also watched it a while back, good movie.

I read a good book about the same subject a couple of years ago, the carnage and chaos up there is unbelievable. Dead bodies, piles and piles of rubbish and abandoned equipment, like a travellers camp 5 miles long.

Close Encounters of The Third Kind.

Just got back from the cinema after seeing Spielberg's early sci-fi masterpiece. In its 40th year it's been 4K remastered and looks and sounds great. The cinema shook when the mothership did its thing!

There was a short ten minute "Making of" beforehand with interviews of the cast and crew including some of Spielberg's personal behind the scenes video. Interestingly, Spielberg doesn't consider it to be a sci-fi movie but more a story involving real people. He's a believer.

So good to see it on the big screen as it's been 40 years for me too. Completely forgotten how it starts with the discovery of the missing WW2 planes and then later on the subsequent returning of the airmen at the mountain. (Should that have been inside 40 year old spoiler tags?)

Still holds its own today - probably due to being a story with special effects rather than special effects with a story.
Right, I'm off to do some sculpting with mashed potato.
