Yup. Never thought I'd have typed those words but its quite a minimalist restrained (verbally) role. I thought he did very well.

Thor Ragnarok: As others have said its a bit of a difficult one. I needed to sleep on it before trying to form an opinion. To start with I would declare my admiration for the first Thor film. I actually think tis one of the best and most re-watchable of MCU films. Thor (the character) had a nice story ark and despite its cosmos spanning storyline felt fairly small. No cities being destroyed, just a small town. It felt neat and self contained, no need to link in with the myriad of other films in the franchise (at least the ones that went before it)
The new film seems to decided that all out comedy was the way to go. I wont talk too much about the story and will try to stay away from spoilers. But once again there is a heroes journey style ark for Thor (almost the same as in the first film actually) err actually I cant really say anymore without spoiling things, so I will not.
I will say for the main part the jokes seem to land and there are quite a few laugh out loud moments, some of which you would have seen in the trailer. The directors cameo is a highlight from a comedic point of view. The Hulk is good, but maybe slightly overused. Loki is Loki.
All the performances are great (rumour is a lot of it was improvised) effects and production are also pretty much flawless as you would expect.

in summary 8/10

Entourage - the movie. As enjoyable as the TV series was (and I did enjoy that). No great difficulty in following the plot. Plenty of celeb cameos.

Brawl in Cell Block 99

Best film I've seen in ages. Extremely brutal. Vince Vaughan is very good.

A lot of review sites are saying it's a career defining performance for him; interested in seeing it myself.

VV was a pretty fine actor way back, he took a load of wrong choices or got miscast a lot, along the way.

'Why Him?'

On Sky Movies. It's got pretty bad reviews but I found it hilarious with some exceptionally rude jokes (not one for young kids!).

Stone Cold. Trashy 90's action flick staring the 'next big thing' Brian Bosworth. Yes it's st but fun nontheless (in a very limited way)

Rurouni Kenshin 2012 Japanese film, based on manga set in the Japanese Meiji period which includes both real and fictional characters. An assassin made famous in the war against the Shogun puts down his sword and vows never to kill again when it ends. Of course his reputation and considerable provocation follow him. A hero story with a hint of romance, it doesn't get as pretty as House of Flying Daggers but does a better job of making you care about the characters, 7/10.

Baby Driver - Way over hyped. I was massively dissapointed with it. Poor acting and a average plot.

Daddys Home - Utter nonsense, but I enjoyed it for being that way. The wife even cracked a smile on a couple of occasions.

We watched this last night and enjoyed it.

Respect to the film makers for using practical effects for some of the brutality. However, I think they should have put a feeler out for Tom Savini, rather than whoever they settled on..

The Death of Stalin; never have I felt so guilty about laughing so hard at a film that is so black and white when it comes to marrying political satire and human brutality. Outstanding performances from everyone, especially Jason Issacs (hello to) and some great quotable lines.

I saw it in a packed Picture House Central in Piccadilly and the entire audience was howling with laughter at times. Stark contrast to a colleague who hated it and said his screening was entirely laugh-free throughout.
I saw it last night and my take was someway in between. There were a few laugh out loud moments, some great one liners (may well be better with a second viewing) but a fair bit of the comedy just didn't click with me which has been the same with most of Ianucci's work. I guess I would have liked to have seen more of some characters (Stalin, Zhukov, Paddy Considine's and Paul Whitehouse's characters) and less of others but you can't please everyone all of the time. 6/10

this shocked me too - had all the ingredients for a massive turd fest, but the missus chose it, and it was actually very funny - an immature, crap, schmaltzy nonsense but funny

a guilty secret 7/10

Although far from perfect, the big screen and big sound, "helped" it along and made it an enjoyable romp.

The Death of Stalin - 8.5/10 - Funny, go see it... like "Inglorious Basterds" but without the tarantino gore...
Never heard of it just watched the trailer looks great.

Why has Jason issacs got a Yorkshire accent smile

Edit found out why

Only Isaacs uses an accent that’s markedly different from his natural speaking voice. “In real life, Zhukov was the only person who was able to speak bluntly to Stalin,” he says. “So, I thought, well, who are the bluntest people I’ve ever met in my life? They’re all from Yorkshire. The accent is shorthand for: no fking around, I’m going to tell you what’s what. I had a picture of [Kes PE teacher] Brian Glover in my head. Magnificent actor.”

Be warned it’s not an out-and-out comedy; sure it’s funny but it’s peppered with some pretty disturbing scenes, given the subject matter it’s dealing with. Well worth a watch IMO.
