John Wick

Terrible, terrible film.

Watched it on netflix and suckered in as was convinced it had to get better. I was wrong.
My thoughts exactly.

I watched most of it at double the speed convinced it must get better but sadly not.

It surely must rate with one of the worst films I've ever seen.
Surely you must have known what you were getting into it. If so that's like me hating lala land simply because I don't like sing alongs

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - 9/10

Wonderful understated film with a couple of fantastic performances (Rockwell and McDormand in particular). Dark but funny and nice to see an ending that absolutely hasn't been Hollywoodised.
Screen Unseen lastnight?

It was really good. Didn't know anything about it, and I avoided the chatter about the clues on Facebook/Twitter leading up to it.

One of my favourites of the year smile
Quick loo, this sounds ace.

O like, Life, best sci-fi horror for years.

SOlace, I watched it, it was OK, Hopkins can make anything watchable.

Essentially someone kills Keanu Reeves dog and nicks his car. As a retired hitman he then goes on a revenge fuelled rampage killing everyone remotely involved.

I'm guessing he needed the money

wrong. John Wick is one of the greatest pieces of cinema to ever contribute to the zeitgeist.

Err, no actually. A few PHers on here had said what a good/great film it was so I settled down with an open mind.

With hindsight, Wonder Woman was a more realistic film.

I have never got Reeves as an actor but fair play to him, he's managed to fool most of the people most of the time.

If you were after realism and an oscar performance from reeves it was definitely the wrong film for you but that should have been obvious from the trailer

Avoid number 2 because that is more of the same but worse

John Wick is hardly "high art" but you could see how much time training he had put in for the fighting and weapon handling

Its up there with any martial art movie imo

Agreed but compare that to "Taken" and there is no comparison.

"Taken", good storyline, plausible, (huge tongue in cheek) highly entertaining.

"Wick", way down the ladder in all respects apart from the killing choreography.

'nuff said from me, I need to work!

If John Wick is one of the worst films you've seen you clearly been luckier than me with some of the total dross out there. I got dragged to see Jeepers Creepers in the cinema FFS biggrin

I quite liked John Wick but I can easily see why some people don't, for example those people who think plot and dialogue are important hehe

The King of Comedy - Scorsese, De Niro, Jerry Lewis and a wackier than usual Bernhard.

Absolute rubbish, a satire with no edge and there's not a single character to like. Only interesting thing are the semi-random cameos. 3/10.

Jon Wick is an interesting one, yes it's plot is paper thin and Keanu has a very limited range, his flip from deadpan to shouty\angry is probably about the best you can hope for. However what Keannu does VERY well is physical action, he looks incredibly convincing and good when kicking 50 shades of crap out of people, something that is actually VERY hard to do. If you don't believe me, just try some Kung Fu moves in front of the mirror and see how good you look, even most proper martial artists don't look that convincing.

Those looking for character nuance or Oscar worthy performances are watching the wrong film\actor I'm afraid, Keanu's films usually follow a very simple character arc, in this one it's a simple revenge tail which he does really well as it essentially boils down to him getting angry and kicking people. As Russell Crowe once famously said after cutting his way through half a dozen people in Gladiator, "Are you not entertained?, I certainly was.

Finally got round to watching 'Baby Driver' - enjoyable, but maybe not as sharp as it could have been. Seemed like a lightweight version a Tarantino film, certainly had elements of 'True Romance' in it, and Jon Hamm's character was a rip-off of George Clooney's in 'From Dusk Til Dawn'. It needed to be a bit grittier really, and 'Baby' as a character was never that engaging.
Normally a big fan of Edgar Wright's so it's a 'not cross, just slightly disappointed' 6/10 from me.

The Force Awakens with the kids. Just for the ending to see Luke looking like Kenny Rodgers on Skellig Michael.
In preparation for The Last Jedi next Saturday afternoon.

Jc1 was good when it came out and Jc 2 was still creepy. "We" watched it a motor home in the middle of nowhere for Halloween one year... that got your imagination going.

Interesting comments and differing opinions regarding John Wick.

I watched it and was prepared to be horrified. To my surprise it was fantasically enjoyable if totally ridiculous - but the second was nowhere near as good. At least John Wick didn't have that gurning tt Gerard Butler in it, whose flobby fat chops I imagine behave like this whenever he shakes his fat soft head...

Actually, in Keanu's defence, he was damned good in The Gift.

Yup, just watched this based on the positive reviews here. It's definitely one to watch, a superb film...

I also want to go to Bruges now.
