Haven't seen the film, but I really enjoyed the series. I was genuinely expecting it to be a bit OTT in a Kiefer Sutherland Designated Survivor sort of way (although I really enjoyed the old series 24), but was pleasantly surprised....and I'm after some new books to read so figured I could give these a shot!

Probably should have kept the original quote I was responding to, without context these replies look pretty dodgy hehewink

Pretty sure I've read all of them and I don't recognise the plot.
Also I don't think this is "Jack Jr" unless both father and son married/dated doctors called Cathy.

Watched 1st 4 episodes of jack Ryan today-great so far, although Im sure Clancy never had that much sex in the books!
Surprised its about Ryan Snr too,as I thought that Red October was his 1st foray away from his desk(although I havent read the later co-authored stuff,so no doubt thats been retconned too)

It isn't based on any of the books, it is just based on the character, but brought into a modern day timeline whilst retaining the main elements of his back story (Former marine forced out due injury, recruited by the CIA, married to a top surgeon) kind of thing

Its a modern take on the original books, no senior or junior characters just Jack Ryan doing his thing in a modern setting with Greer.

I am a huge Tom Clancy fan (his original stuff before he died... the Op Centre stuff is a bit Meh) and I just love the John Kelly/Clark storyline, desperately wanted the black ops guy to be called John but alas he wasnt frown

I do hope the second series brings us a modern take on Cardinal of the Kremlin etc as that is a very undervalued book.

Each season being one of the book themes with a modern twist would be perfect for me biggrin

The purge is quite good with a decent cast. Just a shame it's a weekly release.

Also has into the badlands gone to Netflix Now?

I've just picked up Jack Ryan and I've only watched 2 episodes so far, I'm thoroughly enjoying it - I'm loving the characters introductions and I was pleased to see Cathy and Jim Greer. I was wondering if we'd see Clark, but I suspect that we won't as he deserves a series all of his own...

Just to add to the book conversations - I'm a huge fan of the early books, they get harder and worse as they go on (in my view) - My favourite books, which I will happily read 2-3 times a year are Without Remorse and Red Storm Rising. Patriot Games is one of my other favourites too and I like how we see the effects of the story throughout the rest of his book life.

I'm not sure Without Remorse could be done in to a film as I think the film wouldn't do it justice - Every time I read it, I get sad when Pam is killed even though I know it's coming. I don't think they could or would be able to do the Decompression Chamber bit any justice...

Red Storm rising would make, I think, a great mini series as although it's dated, it's of a recognisable era and is very believable - I think viewers would struggle with the Vigdis storyline and wouldn't really understand how it all fits in with the rest of the book/tv series though.

There's also one on the Phantom and on the Fleet Air Arm worth watching if you're into that stuff - for the footage if nothing else.
