I randomly started watching 'Magicians' over the weekend. From the synopsis, I kind of expected it to be the usual US teen drivel with a bit of magic thrown in for good measure.

It is far better than that, unexpectedly dark in places and has kept my attention for half a dozen episodes. If you're like me and you're rapidly running out of decent series to binge, this is well worth a look.

I started watching Heroes last week. Finished the first series last night. I think it’s fair to say I liked it! Worth a watch. smile

I’ve watched it years and years ago and just restarted it, Hiro is the best character through the whole show IMO.

It certainly is. Just watched the first couple of episodes of season 2, not quite reaching the same heights as the previous one yet. But we’ll see! Agree completely on Hiro, a great character and some excellent acting! “Hello New York!” biggrin

Heroes was superb the first season, second season tapers off quite badly. If I recall the dip was down to the writers' strike going on at the time.

That was my experience of it at the time too - first season pretty good, second ran out of steam and went downhill, and subsequent series got even worse before it all fizzled out although I had given up long before then.

Edit: The writer's strike did indeed affect season 2 significantly. There is an alternate reality scene of a future where the population has been devastated by a virus, and in the present there is bit where someone may or may not catch a dropped vial of this virus. That person catches it and basically says "phew that was a close one! Imagine what would have happened if I'd dropped that!", which allowed them to cut the whole exploration of the alternate reality. Without the writer's strike, they would have explored it (ie. the character would have failed to catch the vial).

(This is just from memory, btw. I haven't gone back and researched it so I may be talking rubbish)

It’s definitely been mentioned here already, but Patriot is amazing. Just smashed it all in 2 days. Great show.
I feel like a Jehovah’s Witness trying to force Patriot on everyone I know

It’s utterly brilliant. Some of the best casting and acting I’ve ever seen
Cheers fellas. Hooked instantly. I’ve had the attention span of a gnat recently could be a very late night.

Enjoying Back of the Net. Entertaining if you like football. Peter Couch seems to be signing up for everything now he’s retired but he’s quite amusing.

Carnival Row. A sort of 19th century version of Bright. Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne, so opposite ends of the acting ability spectrum smile, but OMG the accents!

Oddly not on the front page when I looked, although it was only out today. I'm 1 episode in and it doesn't look too bad.

Didn’t really warm to it. It’s different, well filmed/CGIed but lacking something. No lacking a fair amount.

If you were always waiting for a Ripper Street/Lord of The Rings Crossover show, reusing racist storylines, with pointless rooftop chases, that runs at a slow pace, this might be the one for you.

Binged the season over the wet, I rather liked it, quite obvious plotlines, but still held interest. Boxes well for season 2 already commission med.

Gratuitous effing, blinding, see-you-next-tuesday-ing, nudity and graphic disembowelment. With fairies and assorted mythical folk.

Sort of steam-fairy-punk. Or fairy-steam-punk. Or just very, very odd. Excellent production though.

I'm enjoying it so far. Cara Delevingne has great screen presence. I have enjoyed watching her in everything she has done. Orlando Bloom sounds like Billy Butcher.

Not sure how long it's been available, but watched the film Whiplash last night - loved it.

Well and truly recommended and great performance by JK Simmons
