I liked them both. both got massively better as they went on, we need more pirate and Viking shows really.
BBC did/does a Viking show, that's pretty good too, not as good but still good. I can't for the life of me remember what it's called off the top of my head but if no one posts it before I remember I'll edit the post.silobass said:

Most people have probably seen it but I’ve been watching Preacher on amazon prime. Enjoying it so far. It’s got a god devil angels vibe about it, but not as dark as American gods.
Looking to watch both of these. Probably will wait a bit on American Gods as it is only on season one. We have just realised we need to catch up on Gotham and a traditional favourite of ours Supernatural (been watching this one for so long it is like they are a part of the family )

Trying Black Sails at the moment and struggling with it a bit, seems quite slow paced and not really what I was expecting. Not much sailing or general pirateyness so far and i'm five episodes in, in fact I've not seen a boat sail since the first episode!
Is it worth persisting with? Does it build up and get better? Seems like a lot of series I've started with where it starts to feel dragged out!

I would definitely keep going with it. The first several episodes are building up the stories etc of what is to come. There will be plenty of at sea scenes etc soon enough! It is hardly dragged out tbh. 4 seasons with only 8 I think in the first and 10 in the next 3.Is it worth persisting with? Does it build up and get better? I tried watching this after SOA and Vikings and just couldn't get on with it at all.Thoroughly enjoyed Black Sails, some of the sea battles were epic and the keel hauling....
Whereas I thought SOA was utter tripe, we all like different things.
Just watched S2 finale of Animal Kingdom and it was bloody good although the whole series took some work getting into

I tried watching this after SOA and Vikings and just couldn't get on with it at all.The story moves to finish before Treasure Island starts, and to get it there is very clever. They had to twist certain characters to ensure they ended-up as RLS intended them. It was very clever IMO.
I tried SoA until about the second-last series and gave up because the story seemed to go around in circles - same threats to the group and same mistakes by characters that didn't develop.
Watching American Gods. First season only covers a fifth of the Neil Gaiman book!! Great story telling, very weird but very compelling. Looking forward to season 2 which has been given the go ahead.
Also interesting that the two main characters are actually British actors (an ex Hollyoaks as well!!)
My favourite actor in it so far though has to be Gillian Anderson, she is great in her small but memorable scenes!

Possibly mentioned previously in this thread but I've not read through it all "Halt and Catch Fire" is well worth a watch, all about the birth of the PC and internet, mainly based upon the battle between IBM and Compaq in the early days of computing Silicon Valley and the beginning of the internet.
One of the main Characters drives a nice old school Porsche 928 I think it is?

Vikings I sacked off during the second series, I could live with the storyline but the acting was clunky and a bit second rate.
Black Sails just never hooked me. I think I nearly finished the first series but the storyline just wasn't that compelling.
