Missed the start - why blockwork walls on the ground floor and then a timber first? Cost, speed?

Probably both cost and speed, though it might also be to hold the earth-bank behind the build.

ETA: Scratch the 'holding back the earth-bank' as it looks like it is away from the build.

Love that and for £250k I will have 2. Just goes to show what can be achieved if you keep it simple.

Loved it, what a fantastic home.
Lovely change from white boxes.
