I'm pretty sure I heard this correctly, but on the Sky F1 coverage just now they mentioned that Sky F1 will become Sky Darts after the last race of the season, but will be back as Sky F1 in January.

I guess it makes sense - they probably found it quite hard to fill the schedule during the off season last year, but I do hope it isn't a sign of them losing interest in F1 a little.

I never watch the Sky F1 channel in the off-season. It's just endless repeats of the same 15 minute "Sky F1, your home for Formula One" programs.

I don't watch darts either.

Sadly, no.

"The channel will replace Sky Sports F1 from 0600 Monday 14 December to Tuesday 5 January and all live sessions will also be simulcast on Sky Sports 1, 2 or 3"

It will be the same deal as Sky Sports 2/3 becoming Sky Sports Ashes during the Ashes this summer.

They should just rename it The Crofty Channel as he covers both sports!

That's it? 3 weeks around Xmas and new year? Should be quite easy to avoid without any pain. As said there's little F1 worth watching between races anyway.

To be fair it is better than running endless replays of 15 minute shows and the odd race re-run.

They have a contract until 2018, so I don't think it's a sign of them losing interest. The channel is pretty much dead in the off season anyway, so why not use the bandwidth for other events? My concern is that when it comes back they see it as an excuse to remove it from the legacy HD pack and make everyone take the full Sky Sports pack in order to access it.

MissChief - have you heard anything about what the plans are? Are my fears unfounded?

Yes, that would be pretty awful if they did that. I'd have to review my entire Sky contract, and perhaps use Day Passes for F1 races and not bother with qualifying or Free Practise sessions, which would be a shame.

Agreed. If Sky remove the F1 channel from the legacy HD pack I won't bother with F1 any more. I'd also cancel my Sky subscription. After today's snooze fest and several others this season it's no great loss.

I doubt they'd remove it - it's in their interest to keep the number of subscribers as high as possible (to maximise their advertising revenue) and I think they know that the sport isn't appealing enough at the moment to persuade those of us on the legacy pack to pay the extra for full Sky Sports instead.

Frankly I'm amazed every year they don't pull the legacy deal - I'm over it though, every race it's still a case of seeing if the BBC are doing the full thing or just the highlights and picking from there - I rarely watch them live anymore though, if they drop it I'll be happy enough watching the highlights on BBC, no way I spend the sort of money they want for Sports to subsidise the Football / Cricket / Golf and as it seems Darts coverage.

Thinking the same thing. F1 is the only single reason we have Sky. I may be being picky but a month of not being able to access it should surely entitle one to some sort of rebate.

Sky should have a dedicated motor sport channel, include the F1 but also show lots of other motorsport to fill in the gaps.

So if you get the F1 channel because you have the legacy HD deal, anyone know if you will get the darts channel, or whether this will only be for Sky Sports customers?

Surprised anyone only has Sky for the F1 though with so many other ways to watch it (many free). Is Kodi seen as too unreliable or too techie for example?
