I'd agree with trying to stick it out - I'd read the books, so was immersed from the first minute, however my better half hasn't read them and took most of the first series to fall for it.

She's now as much of a fan as I am, although did have to go back a couple of times to rewatch bits that suddenly made much more sense.

It is true "space opera" committed to the small screen. In breadth and scope it's immense.

From 'existing' very detailed socio-economics and politics, as well as new and novel story overlaid on top.

It won't be for everyone, but it really is top drawer in execution.

Agreed. Very clever shift in language - a bit like the Sun-English in Firefly.

Avasarala's accent is a pleasure to listen to too.

After Firefly, I tried to use 'shiny' in as many sentances as posible

Cara Gee is so hugely different in real life from Drummer... brilliant peformance...probably my favourite character after Amos and Chrissy.

I also like the way Naomi talks in an english accent to earthers but slips into a belter accent when talking to belters, little details....

I need to resume The Expanse at sometime.

Last I watched, they were trying to interdict a load of bluestuff missiles from the base as they were launched. So, late S3 / early S4?

It was all getting very heavy and I took a break into fluffier stuff like some fairly bonkers anime, and I need to get back to it.

The whole story arc with Drummer and Ashford is my favourite of the series; really liked David Strathairn's performance in S4, especially towards the end. The old, weary war veteran who has made peace with his life decisions. Plus you gotta love the crazy hair biggrin

She's a great character but her accent really grates for me. Not keen on the Belter patois either.

It took me the whole of series 1 to get into it and I thought S4 wasn't that great in places after 2&3 which were excellent.
So far S5 is really good, back up to the previous standard. I still want to see more exploration of the new worlds though. I'm slightly surprised there doesn't seem to be a story thread outside of our solar system this season (unless I'm being dumb and missed references).

I will probably leave off reading the books until the whole thing is finished on Amazon.

One of many shames about Amazon killing it off after S6, is that a significant chunk of the action in subsequent books takes place outside the solar system. That shouldn’t be too spoiler-ish, hopefully.

On reflection, I can understand why S6 makes a reasonable stopping point, but that discussion probably for another thread.

Book 7 is next up for me, so I look forward to that - currently taking a break to re-read Dune.

Ty Franck has said it will not be properly cancelled but paused. Alcon interested in doing something else with the IP, so likely some further mini series or feature length stuff.

IMO it's not that interesting after book 6 anyway so far but may improve with the future book(s)

Let's hope so.

I don't know why it was cancelled, I thought Bezos was a fan, and in this case unlike say Lost or BSG there's a clearly mapped plot from beginning to end, so it's not being made up as they go, and unlike GoT the show is not in front of the books so no problems there either. It has a clear start, middle, and end, plus annoyingly the last 3rd of the arc is perhaps the *best, so double grrrr.

  • I've read the books to 8 plus the novellas, the last arc ties it all together and gets very interesting.

could all be a ploy to get ratings up and again, then change thier mind

i think they will do a few movie length episodes to finish it off, if they dont wrap it all up by the end of the season....

That would have to be one hell of a condensing to wrap that all up, I felt S4 was a bit of a wasted opportunity and could have done with another 2 episodes really.

It's strange isn't it, The Expanse has been axed twice now so there must bee a reason for it.
I don't know what the viewing figures are for it, but perhaps it's just not getting the numbers to make it viable. I know it's been a critical success, but that doesn't always translate into viewing figures.
Many people in work talk about the Mandalorian, but I'm hard pressed to find anyone who's watched the Expanse. I know I'm not exactly comparing apples with apples, but outside of the relatively niche Sci-fi fanbase perhaps people just aren't tuning in.

I don't think the viewer count really affects VOD productions as much as traditional TVs shows. There was a huge outpouring of support for the show when Sci-Fy dropped it and I doubt that has disappeared - Amazon knew what they were getting when they picked it up. I think there is another reason; maybe a desire to move away from episodic story telling.

Did not disappoint.

This kind of intrigue and action between humans in the Solar System is the sort of thing I have been waiting to see, after they spent so much time building up the history of tension between the three factions.
