The ships look so much more detailed and better lit since amazon started paying.

The recent "death blossum" sequence was packed full of details - the torpedoes burning flipped over to intercept the rocinante and the PDCs have a thrusters to compensate for the recoil.

Only one more episode left.
Death blossom. Last starlight reference?
Yes, seems to be a tribute to the last starfighter from the show runners.

Crikey that takes me back. Might have to go have a watch, parts of it terrified me as a kid. No idea why my autocorrect thought that starfighter was my misspelling of starlight.

Started the Expanse at new year due to seeing this thread. Season 4 now, skipping the thread now till i'm up to date but just to say what a fabulous show. I'll take Gunny in a fire fight over Rambo.

I said it above, but that part and the leadup was great. Naomi is a legit badass.

The last two episodes have dragged a little since, but I think that's a result of the spacewalk and missile attack high drama.

And I like Peaches, but she's an idiot and not persuasive enough to manage what she's done on the island. She makes up for it by murdering people in her hidden way which is always a joy to see people react to. laugh If we ever do see a bullettime shot of her in action, I hope it's suitably gruesome.

I thought Season 3 ended well. I hope now that we have S6 confirmed they can tie it all up in a suitable bow.

Compare also with the "spacewalk" in Event Horizon, where the character ends up looking much more worse for wear: "I want you to huff, and puff, and blow all the air out of your lungs!"

Brian Cox (the ex-D:Ream physicist, not the actor) was scientific advisor on that. On the DVD commentary (yes - I'm that sad AND old!) he said they did twist some of his advice to suit the storyline, but never completely ignored it (or words to that effect).

I hope not.

There's another 4 books worth of story, and you want to squeeze that into a 10 episode season?

For comparison, it's taken 5 seasons so far to go through books 1 - 5

I'd much rather they took a break and heavily pitched it to another distributor, after all after book 6 there is a 30 yr timeline gap. (clearly I don't want to wait 30 yrs though) laugh

Of course I'd like Bezos to personally bankroll it to the end of the books like he's ordering a box set, but if it does end early then at least let it be like S3 with all of the major plots tied up and not like S4 with some big plots set in action.

As techguyone points out (& I did many pages ago), there is a huge, natural break in the books after S6. It will be disappointing, but completely understandable to cut it here.

Have enjoyed the season, but I do feel that after a very strong first couple of episodes, it kind of fizzled out into soap opera territory. I think part of the problem is the guy who plays Marco Inaros, who hams up the character to pantomime villain territory.

And only one episode left, dammit.

They've always had fun in this thing portraying physics in action, makes for some interesting shots.

Particular favorite being the trails of molten metal left through a ship after rail gun hits, hanging in position until a manoeuvre by the ship made them pivot away.

I think some character types are just difficult to maintain for long periods of exposure. Holden suffered from this a bit while he played "reluctant leader" for so long. Everyone suffered it in S3 of Killing Eve!

Marco has done monstrous things and I thought some of the conversations with his son were wonderfully manipulative, but the plot dictates that he spends entire episodes on the bridge of his ship doing nothing. Malevolently.

That's hard to keep up and becomes harder the more you see him, especially when he has no foil, wheras Karal on Drummers ship has lots of interactions with an established family to demonstrate her nastiness. I fking hate her. laugh

Naomi fixing a problem or Alex doing what he's told are easier roles to play because they don't need to convey a greater meaning.

Evil Philippa Georgiou suffered from this in Star Trek Discovery, too. She started off believably evil, but after two seasons you'd never be convinced the was a genocidal despot.

I thought his responses to loss and his private conversation with Naomi dehammed him a lot. I also liked the way his son wasn't hugging him back when he heard Naomi had escaped, lots of believable conflict going on there. The actor who plays her son has done a good job of a tough role IMO.

I think some scenes of Marco enjoying downtime with his loyalists would bolster his realism, plus give an opportunity to demonstrate leadership, but that would rob time from elsewhere. I would expect him to be more filled in in the books.

Yeah, but we still have acceleration and deceleration engine noise in a vacuum.

Although I suppose it's a bit like the artificial football crowd noise we have now. Matches just don't feel the same with the noise off, and I suppose it would be the same with spaceships.

It actually worked quite well in firefly.

I just imagine engine sounds and such are the sound they hear inside the ship through the hull....I know that doesn't cover all of it...
