I’ve only just got on this. It’s brilliant. On S2 E4 now.
I do feel bad for the Mormons, having that massive ship snatched from them. Don’t know why they couldn’t just use those numerous positioning thruster bot things (the ones that reposition the Nauvoo) to push Eros into a new path???
Not powerful/fuel efficient enough, they don't have epstein drives like the proper ships (yellow main thruster not blue) I do feel bad for the Mormons, having that massive ship snatched from them. You need to watch every tiny detail...
For anyone interested, Wes Chatham (Amos) and Ty Frank (1 half of the writing due that make us James SA Corey) have started a podcast where they are going to re-watch all 5 series show by show and provide a commentary on what is on screen but also the production and context behind the story. It's called Ty & that Guy.
They did season 5 after-shows that are on Amazon's YouTube channel but now those are all done and out the way, they're starting from the beginning. First episode is out and it's more about Ty Franks inspiration for writing the books; it's very interesting. I think it'll be a week or two until they get to watching S1E1.

Only recently discovered this, and finished season 5 last night. Loved it. Agree that the very clunky post filming bodge to write a character out didn't work well though.
I've not read the books (plan to though no major spoilers please), but how closely does the series follow them? Presumably writing a major character out is going mean a bit more of a diversion.

Show follows books incredibly closely - the core difference is perspective, there are characters/contexts which whilst contemporary with the core arc aren't in the books until later.I've not read the books (plan to though no major spoilers please), but how closely does the series follow them? There's a 'natural break' in the books, writing Alex out shouldn't cause much diversion from the books.

If you're interested, check out Ty & that Guy podcast - it's hosted by Wes Chatam (who played Amos) and Ty Frank (one half of James S. A. Corey who wrote the books and is heavily involved in the show). They go episode by episode discussing themes and inspirations for the show. It's not your typical 'watch along' type podcast - they don't discuss each scene in detail - but you do get excellent insight into the people behind the show.I've not read the books (plan to though no major spoilers please), but how closely does the series follow them? I recently started watching this as heard good things about it, won't read the whole thread to avoid spoilers. I'm on Season 2 Ep 9 currently, it's all getting very strange and interesting, I'm guessing the hostiles that attacked Ganymede are alien or something, they certainly looked it when the Mars Marine saw them.
Enjoying it so far.

I felt it started very well but didn't quite keep the pace up.
The Naomi storyline just fell a little flat for me (too much of her grinding through misery, we get it - she's tough) and the Timmy and Peaches story could have been a lot more but seemed to have been minimised.
The conclusion of Alex's story left a bad taste in the mouth. Presumably done at a very late stage. They could have had the character leave the story on good terms even if they were determined to punish the actor for allegations.
Still overall good though, just could have been better.
The big problem with all this was the fact that S5 had been filmed and completed before the decision to Axe Cas Anver happened, with the pandemic and restrictions (plus cost) they were really limited with what could be done, I suspect that what was done was the easiest/most possible/cheapest way to do it.The Naomi storyline just fell a little flat for me (too much of her grinding through misery, we get it - she's tough) and the Timmy and Peaches story could have been a lot more but seemed to have been minimised.

I thought the books were great too, went and read them after watching the series, new one due out in November. I think they do diverge a bit more later on in the story, be interesting to see if the next TV series pulls them back together or does something different to draw it all to a close. I get the feeling it'll just be left hanging in the hope that someone funds another series, no idea why they wouldn't as it's easily one of the best scifi series going.

Apparently they are choosing to end after 6 seasons, rather than being canceled. Amazon asked them for more; they said no.
Makes sense, as the books after this latest arc are based 30 years after. They are still very good books, though, but I can understand why they would leave it at Season 6.techguyone said:

The authors have stated numerous times now, its not ending, it's a pause only.I really, really hope they continue the show...
