Those Laconia bits are pretty annoying. The kid can't act and these segments are just too shallow and take away from screen time for the main plot arc. I also wasn't a fan of all the screen time spent on Ilus in S4 too (nor that plot, which seems quite cliched), though seems to be related to the same longer term stuff.
If they don't pay it off in some meaningful way this season I'll be pretty annoyed, even if they are setting up post-TV series events from the books for TV movies or mini-series (which may never happen).
Sums it up for me as well. I’m not fussed about the kids acting ability, but I just don’t care what’s happening on that planet. It also makes no sense to me that the kid wanders off into the forest on an alien world anyway, but that’s another discussion. If they don't pay it off in some meaningful way this season I'll be pretty annoyed, even if they are setting up post-TV series events from the books for TV movies or mini-series (which may never happen).
I assume these bits make sense and / or are meaningful in some way if you’ve read the books, but I haven’t and to me they’re adding in another story line that:
1. I don’t care about, and
2. They’re unlikely to resolve in this series’s run of six episodes.
The whole Expanse saga is essentially a trilogy, the TV series (so far) will only show the first 2/3, those 'annoying' Laconia bits pretty much form the entire basis for the whole last 1/3
So yea, pretty important.
Although granted, we have no idea when/if that'll ever be shown. For me personally, the whole thing took a bit of a nose dive after S3.

I really hope I'm wrong, but I'm finding it difficult to see anything but disappointment.
Possibly, depends on how much you hype yourself up, and its unlikely to be the actual finale considering the 3 laconian empire novels remain to be adapted in the future.Personally, series 1-3 are top notch, then its been steadily getting less interesting for me. Particularly when focussing on Naomi and Holden.
I've managed to stay away from the books once i got hooked on the TV series, but will pick them up post Season Finale.
as stated above , i think the quality and detail has been a bit lower this season (and declining i think since the previous season) but its still far far better than anything we've had of this genre for a while - and its one of the only TV shows i really look forward to seeing each week.

You could set all of this up in the opening episode of the next series / first 20 minutes of a film though… What they’re currently doing is setting up something that’s unlikely to resolve (or even go anywhere) in the current series, while also taking time away from the story arcs that can / should end in this series. So yea, pretty important.

I imagine it’s in the hope that there will be fan demand to see this stuff also play out, so that they get a further few series commissioned, or a film (like Firefly)…
We’re approaching the finale of what may the be the best TV sci-fi we’ve ever had. Yet all I read is people already disappointed for the episode the they haven’t yet seen. Seems odd to me.
I don’t think they’ll manage to wrap up everything, but I’m excited to see what they do. I’ll save my disappointment for afterwards.
Anyway, for sci-fi fans of a certain age, I posted this on the Blake’s 7 thread…

In the most recent episode, when Avasarala strides through the space station looking far too glamourous, I couldn’t help but think of Servalan.

Yeah, I get people's criticism of the pacing, it does go slow-fast-slow-fast, and the Laconia stuff might feel a bit pointless if they don't do a follow up. But I don't think I've ever enjoyed a TV series as much as this...I just want to go back to the start and watch it all again.I don’t think they’ll manage to wrap up everything, but I’m excited to see what they do. Hope it's not a dissapointing end, but I don't think it will be.

I was going to jump on this after Utopia - is it definitely worth the watch?
100% worth watching. Not everyone enjoys season 1 (which is is still good), but it gets bigger and better with seasons 2 and 3. What? There's only one more episode?
Is it like 5 hours long or something?
45 minutes and that's only the dhead at the ring gate getting smashed to bits isn't it. That doesn't really resolve very much and would mean the programme ending on the least interesting story. And by least interesting, I mean irrelevant. The story is the other side of the ring surely.

i liked it - although did they explain (ps i've not read the books yet)
the kid getting reanimated? perhaps i missed it and need a rewatch....
I think they could have omitted that storyline as it seems to be the primary confusing element for those who haven't read the books and novellas, and it adds very little.the kid getting reanimated? perhaps i missed it and need a rewatch....
if they left it out, people would moan why no mention of laconia, but then again, Marco dropping Rocks on Earth was forshadowed very subtly in the first series, so they have plenty of form for dropping seemingly random details that will only pay off much later.
Overall there's loads of subtle info relating to the plot in background announcements, on screens, walls etc. Blink and you'll miss plenty of detail.
In the case of the kid it's a bit vague, but you can join the dots. Afterall, they have been consistent throughout the whole run - stuff with blue = protomolecule.
