Apple are interested in making a new series, set in the 30 year gap, so new material.

So original material? Why would they do that when the books are already out there?

They could bring back some of the original cast if that's true.

The final three books would be challenging to make into TV. There's a lot of techno-babble explanations of why/how stuff happens.

I would recommend the books to anyone who has watched the series, they followed the books pretty closely when making the TV so you can probably just pick up 7-9 to find out what happens. However, I would recommend that you read them all if you have the time.

I need to read the novellas and I've just queued up Series 1 Ep 1 on Prime to start back through the TV series again.

Remember The Cant.

I've been gorging on this. Cannae believe I've only just gotten around to it.

It's certainly hitting the spot.

I'm not buying Marco though. The actor seems like the type of bloke who admires himself in the mirror while snogging you.

I read somewhere that the rights are freeing up soon. Maybe it'll never come back, but at least the existing ones were made before the streaming tax dodge mass culls of today.

There were a few characters that I didn't like. Naomi Nagata, Chrisjen Avasarala, Camina Drummer (mainly the accent), Roberta 'Bobbie' W. Draper stated off annoying, its surprising I stuck with it to the end. getmecoat

Naomi felt a bit bland but I totally dug those other characters.

I thought Drummer was the only one who pulled off an accent without sounding like it was the first one they tried in rehearsals, decided it was crap, but stuck with it anyway.

I was getting bored of Naomi, but she really gets her moment to shine in the last season with some total badassery.

I think ships conscious Naomi and ever-reluctant-hero Holden were difficult roles to play in a stimulating way. Marco suffers from Villain Fatigue where each showing reduces their diabolicalness. I felt the same of Michelle Yeoh in Star Trek who went from genocidal monstrous despot to comedy anti-hero as the show went on. Marco doesn't fall that far, but the plot needs him to be standing malevolently on bridge staring into space a whole lot, or else arguing with a teenager, which is hard to do in a megalomaniac manner repeatedly.

I can't think of many poor performances in The Expanse. Even dumb muscle Burton has more depth than the whole S8 of GOT.

I'm working my way through the books at the moment - they're great.

the problem with STD is that Michelle Yeoh is a quality actress and her part wasn't 'Space Saviour' rammed down your throat at any and every opportunity so she really was able to shine

I've read most of the books via kindle.

With audible, I find the most important thing is the quality of the narrator - how good is the Expanse narrator(s)?

You're dead right. Jefferson Mays works for me. In most cases I'm mentally picturing the faces from the series with a few obvious exceptions. I use the "sample" function a lot not so much to see if I like the story but to see if I can take to the narrator

So say we all.

Oh wait, wrong series.

Anyway, found it a little difficult in the beginning to get on with but by series 2 I was hooked and binge watched the rest.

Never knew about the books so will invest in them shortly.

Cracking series in the end with some genuine edge of the seat episodes.

I was the same - I watched half of season one and got bored and then went back to it after 6 months. Series 2 was better and 3/4/5 were superb.

thankfully the most annoying character imo died in Season 1 smile for me the series improved immeasurably after that.

I don't remember, who was that? Might be worth using spoiler tags

was it Anderson Dawes. Played by Jared Harris?

I found Miller's Earthling partner v dull and was hoping him getting skewered would be it.

Almost, but luckily he didn't stick around much longer.
