Don't forget "Chicago PD" which is pretty good and in it's seventh season now. They're always stepping over pools of blood.
It occasionally has crossover episodes with its sister shows Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago Justice and even Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
BTW Author Robert Crais used to write for shows like Hill Street Blues, Miami Vice and Gagney & Lacey.

For books, I was always a big fan of Ed McBain novels, but they're not really the same as Bosch although the 'solving a crime' aspect is.
However, I think the poster who asked for anything similar was looking for TV programmes and, aside from the likes of Morse/Lewis/Endeavour it's hard to think of many detective TV series currently.
I always used to really enjoy Hill Street Blues (It was a long time ago, though!) and the Shield as someone mentioned is top notch if you've not seen it.

If you want to see Michael Chiklis play a good cop before he was the machiavellian "Vic Mackey" in the Shield, then check out The Commish, which is available on Amazon Prime. However, I think the poster who asked for anything similar was looking for TV programmes and, aside from the likes of Morse/Lewis/Endeavour it's hard to think of many detective TV series currently.

Chicago PD is way way better than the other Chicago service franchise shows. It's quite gritty whereas the others are nothing more than showbiz. It occasionally has crossover episodes with its sister shows Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago Justice and even Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
That's the final wrap for the final season of Bosch. Maybe some Haller in the pipeline though...

I can't remember if I've mentioned it before, but I always thought Southland was a great cop series. Lots of flawed characters, rather than just "cops good, robbers bad". It's a shame they only made four or five series (I think, something like that). It's also based in LA.
Slightly different, but also worth a watch is Cardinal, a detective series based in small town Ontario (IIRC, it was filmed in and around Sudbury, north west of Toronto). The town/department are both fictional, but loosely based on the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police, who cover the bits between the big cities and towns with their own departments).

Having enjoyed all the series of Bosch so far I then started on the books, picking them up cheaply, secondhand off ebay. Brilliant book and the Micky Haller series.
Last weekend we watched the Netflix series called 'Night Stalker' set in the early 80's in L.A about a serial killer. It was surprising how it seemed like a real life Bosch story with a few references to real groups of cops or how journalists worked that were straight out of the Bosch books. A lot of the language that was used was very Michael Connolly. Well worth a watch if you fancy some 'real' Bosch stuff.

I like PD, but started with Chicago Fire and have really enjoyed that too. I wouldn't call Fire lightweight, it just doesn't have a Regan/Voight character. andy_s said:

I might have to cough up for Amazon Prime for a month

Definitely worth reading if you like the TV series. I'm about 3/4 through them and the plots (and some characters) are different enough that having seen the TV version isn't a spoiler. It's also interesting checking out the various book locations on Streetview.
