New Bosch series to start on a spin-off Amazon channel (IMDB TV), will be covering the later books.

Just Bosch, his daughter and Honey ‘Money’ Chandler (Mimi Driver) announced.
Not sure why it’s a different show, and not Season 8 and onwards of Bosch. Michael Connolly will still be involved, he’ll be busy with this and the Micky Haller show starting this year also. No crossovers sadly as Bosch on Amazon and Haller on Netflix (strangely).
Odd to separate Bosch and Haller since they're half brothers, and they've featured in at least one Bosch book together? https://www.thewrap.com/bosch-spinoff-series-order...

Perhaps they already had the Bosch spin off ready to go or as it appears to be a different production company involved, got the rights and involved Connelly involved and chose to / were able to sell it to Netflix.
Maybe we'll never know!
The series hasn't followed the route of Bosch faithfully**, has it - or have I forgotten something along the way?
Harry left LAPD and went to SFPD (San Fernando Valley PD), and that's where the opioid plot came in.
Have I lost it, or that didn't happen in the TV version, SFPD, that is?
(**N.B.:Aside from the fact that Harry was a Tunnel Rat in Vietnam, not anywhere near Desert Storm 20 years later.)

Not faithfully no, most seasons are based on 2 or 3 of the books kind of intertwined together but several details are changed. Harry left LAPD and went to SFPD (San Fernando Valley PD), and that's where the opioid plot came in.

As Michael Connolly says on his website: "In season 1, we have taken plot lines from three different books and entwined them – one last for four episodes, one for eight episodes and one for all ten."
Another deviation for example is that Eleanor Wish was killed in Hong Kong in the books, not outside a bank in LA in the TV version.
I love the books and the TV series.
Welliver is perfect casting, I think - I certainly picture him whenever I read a book now (still got a few left to go).
In a way I like the fact that the later series, especially, didn't strictly equate to a book as I know I delayed watching the one where the guy was shot in the lift as I hadn't read the book at that point - That series was very close to the book.

Something good to look forward to.
Too many “drama” plots, that should run for a couple of episodes, are now dragged out for 6, or many more. Bosch seems to be the big exception. They are dumbed-down from the books, but still hugely enjoyable.
I've not read the first book yet but bought it for my sis in law as she's big into crime etc. She says it's very enjoyable and very detailed. Which sounds like the author puts alot of effort into his books!Too many “drama” plots, that should run for a couple of episodes, are now dragged out for 6, or many more. I started reading his books years back, long before the tv series. I always pictured Al Pacino in the role - maybe because of his performance in Heat.Hugo Stiglitz said:

I listened to Simon Mayo's book podcast the other day, where Simon and Matt interviewed the author, Michael Connelly. If I recall correctly, he doesn't have major plans when he starts wrting a book. His latest, a Lincoln Lawyer novel, The Law of Innocence, he wrote in a couple of months last year! Some more trailer [different from above] with some comments by Welliver on the spin-off.

At least two of the cast should have got the Stringer Bell reference.https://ew.com/tv/bosch-season-7-trailer-titus-wel...
