The Island - Bear Grylls Series 3 tonight Ch4 @ 9pm
Discussion
Watched it with red hot feminist teenage daughter who initially wavered on whether to be ashamed of the wimmin and have them shot but ultimately decided they were OK when they told the camerawoman to fk off although the hooky water was obviously stupid
The blokes on the other hand............
Funnily enough it was the insurance salesman who looked like he lived with his mum and the beach crybaby who came out of the episode with any dignity
Im in for another week, its Monday the tellys rubbish anyway

I just don't agree with you.
Then please collect your things and leave the group...Anyone else want to leave, speak up now. Otherwise - you all know what you need to do.
I'll be taking a nap in the shade over there if you need me.

Day 1:
Send someone out to collect trash (bottles etc) to store water in - when it rains, use a canopy to collect the water.
Send out a couple of people to try and find fresh water.
Have someone make a fire.
Everyone else - kill anything than moves (for food) and collect fire wood.
How hard can it be?
Correct. What annopys me is the people seemed to have learned nothing from the previous two series. If you watch The Apprentice all the contestants have cleared watched the previous series and adapted their behavior accordingly. Send someone out to collect trash (bottles etc) to store water in - when it rains, use a canopy to collect the water.

The insurance sales guy would annoy me instantly along with the lazy guy
I didn't notice any swearing, probably says a lot about my own language choices.
I wish they'd change the format a bit more; different climate, escape scenario, etc. But given how the contestants never seem to have much propensity to survive without external help perhaps an environment less bountiful than a tropical island isn't realistic. Sunny beaches make for pleasant Monday evening TV at least and the off-island crew must enjoy it.

Anyone else notice that the amputee's second name is stump?
I didn't notice that! . I'm mildly concerned that the insurance salesman is a bit racist - just a hunch really, and I hope I'm proved completely wrong. It was interesting that Riz knew the necessary direction for his prayers - presumably the crew had had the foresight to calculate this in advance, which is thumbs-up from me, unless he had some sort of Islamic Compass. Those girls are lucky they found the guys so early, what with the water situation - it makes you wonder at what point the crew would have told them. Could have been very dangerous.

Like the sun? I think if they don't know they just give it their best shot, which is all they do anyway really. It's not like they'll get feedback from above if they get it wrong.

(I found his breakdown at the start all a bit confusing. It certainly wasn't attention-seeking, and I felt sorry for him, but these applicants are supposed to be screened for physical and mental anomalies, if that's the right word, and I wonder whether he's slipped through the net, or whether the production crew think he'll make for good TV. Time will tell.)

It annoyed me no end that Erika got sick, and the 'doctor' said drink more water, are the symptoms not obvious? Is it not obvious what's happening? I hope I never have to get treated by that doctor!
I still don't get how the *doctor* gave the water the all clear to drink. If any of us were desperate for drinking water how would we know it's safe ?

How do they recharge the camera batteries?
Easy. There are 3-pin sockets at the base of some of the 'palm trees'.....whole place is fake, see ? Snakes ? Iguanas ? Fish ? All radio-controlled Robots....living tissue over a metal endoskeleton
Even the 'storms' are faked.....have you not seen the Truman Show ?
I fear though, that the only crocodiles we'll see this series were the tears cried by the muslim boy.....
Nobody has mentioned it yet, but the girls had to swim to shore with bags of supplies, yet when the camera-person was taken off the boat came in to within a couple of yards of the beach.
The whole "you must swim to the beach, we can't get any closer" scenario was just to make good TV. Poor beggars. Maybe Riz was a poor swimmer, in which case it would have been a bit frightening.

That was a different beach. The whole "you must swim to the beach, we can't get any closer" scenario was just to make good TV. Poor beggars. Maybe Riz was a poor swimmer, in which case it would have been a bit frightening.
