True, but he's no longer a writer for TG I don't think. Writing credit went to Danny Baker, whereas Porter seems to be in the Clarkson camp. Him sniping at TG would be (and I thin he has done so), a bit like sour grapes, but his sniping at us is entirely fair game. Let's face it, we're 60 minutes into the series and in my browser at least, have just under sixty pages of thread. It's a pretty open goal, never mind how lame the joke is. I'm pretty sure a poster in the very early pages summarised the thread several weeks ago with startling accuracy.

As a total aside, did I spot Henry Catchpole of Evo fame in the opening shot of the audience?

The show's new writers do a much better impression of their predecessors than do the new presenters. That must be a bit irritating, though it's only an impression, there's no creativity in copying.

To be fair I think it's way off the mark; there are a number of quite odd individuals who after 200+ episodes and 14 years of new top gear still watched every episode then logged on here to to express the remorse and indignation they feel that it wasn't the same program that got shelved 20 years ago for being outdated. It's an odd way to live your life IMHO but there you go.

This thread, here, is about just how what a terrible job evans has done about a show he's just taken over, the premier of which we've all just viewed, and to be fair he really has done a number on it. But the key difference is most won't be posting about how bad next weeks episode will be. or the one after that.

I thought Porter had also rather gone off Clarkson as well, at least that's the feeling I get from his SP stuff?

Does anyone really care what he thinks anymore? Is Sniff even worth looking at these days? Without drawing too close an analogy to a certain show it peaked a quite few years back and since then just got lazy and repetitive with too much sniping at the audience for being wrong rather than adapt to changing tastes.

I'd also politely suggest a viewpoint that closely repeated across global markets and different viewer groups might have something to it beyond a bit of forum sniping.

I have to agree, even their 'ads' just look a bit sad and repetitive with added swearing for an 'edge' (not unlike Popbh), with no originality these days. I'd not been there for a while and won't venture back in a hurry.

The comment earlier is true, whilst I found TG was getting a little stale (I said a few times that Clarkson just seemed a bit bored in the last series), I still enjoyed it and tuned in, with rarely a complaint. It was what it was.

Those complaining about Evans' reboot are mostly basing complaints on what they saw and didn't like. There be a minority who were clammering for change and now lamenting it (not that unnatural), but I think the majority are simply reacting to what they saw and, from the general response, it seems they saw pretty much what I see every time Evans is on TV!

Nothing I've read anywhere has made me think "Oh, I must go and take a look after all"...

That is quite vulgar to be honest. Not very endearing. Perhaps he needs to say these things to reassure himself.

I just tried to have a second viewing to see if I feel differently but, I don't. I got another 10 minutes in and just zoned out.

The format is dead. It was on its last legs when the trio presented it too, but somehow they made it watchable. These days I am also less bothered about the super cars et al too. I'll never own one and to be honest they just don't do it for me anymore. They aren't interesting. I think I just liked Clarkson, Hammond and May. I think I could just about watch them do anything. TGT could feature not a single car and it would still be a better watch than the new TG.

They need a new format. Stat.
I thought so. Just the way he wrote it. Could have posted figures in a different way and not come across a prat.

You know maybe thanking the audience for the great response and faith. Plus I know im thick but surely the important figures are next weeks. Oh well.

Well, they say "No publicity is bad publicity", they might get more viewers next week smile

If so, I predict a spate of "Nah, nah, nah nah, nah - Told you I was popular!!!!!" tweets biggrin

Another tweet, not shouting FACT now though

"Top Gear i Player views now at 1.1 million. Rock n roll ! Thank you. Team and channel totally thrilled."

Is 1.1m iPlayer views good?

So, what happens if TG does get more viewers (or greater share) next week?

How will the PH massive twist and contort that to suit their vision?

The viewing figures for the first episode will always be high as people tune in to see what its like and/or use iPlayer to watch it because they missed it/wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

Its the ones over the coming weeks that they should be worried about.

I can't speak for anyone but myself but I don't want this show to fail. I genuinely want it to be a success because even if it's not my cup of tea, a car show is a car show and any car show is better than none.

I just honestly didn't think this was any good, I Didn't go in expecting miracles but also not expecting rubbish, and when the hour was up I felt underwhelmed to say the least.

Evans's ''FACT FACT FACT' tweets were a petty response to the critics IMO.

I believe the recent TFI revival started well then tanked.

Indeed. I feel exactly the same way. yes

It's interesting to note that those who didn't like it can, on the whole, state exactly why and where it failed. Often quite eloquently and cogently rather than just "I didn't like it". Whereas those who seek to defend it need to employ ad hominem arguments, personal insults and body line tactics to get their point across. I think that rather speaks volumes.

I'm not too bothered how many people watched, just how st it was.

It's Evans that is obsessed with figures.

Slightly O/T Lots of stuff starts well but once it becomes popular the rot sets in, over exposure, dumbing down, carrying on past its sell by date etc etc.

As expected really.

Only upside was LeBlanc, I think he did a good job tbh. Evans was very very annoying, hopefully he calms down some. As written by others, let Monkey and Sabine do the driving of the faster machinery.

I'm still hopeful and the now very lacking chemistry between the presenters will better itself with a little time.

Evans kills it (not in a good way) for me.
He can't drive and knows Jack about cars despite his dream garage.
I'm sure the Beeb hope other territories will just buy the brand. Which they probably will.
