Discussion
I liked the show for a 'first episode', though preferred the follow up 'extra' than the main feature! No doubt Chris Evans is a bad choice for a lead man though, no presence. Especially after following Clarkson who has it in spades.
Will be interesting to see how the side hosts develop over the series as they get more used to it, hopefully they will be more utilised in the main show. I've been a fan of Harris & Sabine for some years. Rory is a very good presenter. LeBlanc is a pro as you'd expect, needs the right person alongside him though to work.

Oh dear, that was pretty desperate.
MLB's Nomad part was the only good bit that came close to replicating some of the fun of the old TG. Clearly the BBC think that the essence of TG is the format and the presenters are interchangeable. They really do not appear to realise that the old format was getting desperately ancient and it was only the chemistry of the 3 leads that was managing to hold it together so they kept the dross and threw out the good bit.
To use an automotive metaphor, that was the televisual equivalent of a Nissan Arna - and one driven by an obnoxious, shouty egomaniac at that.
I couldn't bring myself to watch Extra Gear after sitting through that but clearly it seems to have been the better programme.

That one might need a bit of an explanation - the Arna was the product of a Japanese/Italian car making alliance. Recently that's given us the Fiat Spider, which is a car that combines Japanese engineering with Italian style. With the Arna you got the opposite - a Datsun Cherry with an Alfa boxer engine:It's quite telling that on IMDB each episode previous to this was getting a roughly 8.5/10, this episode is currently sat at 2.4
Get rid of Evans, find a better person to play off MLB possibly Rory, lose the stig and replace it with Sabine and CH each setting a lap time. Actually make an effort with content rather than rehashing what seemed like old ideas.
Was a shame to not see CH actually review that Viper, rather than have CE waste everyone's time showing off the fact he knows nothing.

I thought it was OK for a first crack. I am just glad to have something car related, thats also a bit silly, back on the telly.
I thought Matt LeBlanc was decent which I didnt expect, enjoyed the section on the Ariel Nomad, the Dodge Viper bit would have been good without Chris Evans (suprised how fast it was round the track too), Reliant clip could have been a bit shorter, like cutting the boring 10 minutes of drive up the motorway. New rallycross SIARPC has potential, shame the MINI isnt a faster anti lag crackling turbo version but what can I expect - the bit in the studio I dont like though, feels far too much like some awful crossover from TFI Fridays (which is st, Chris Evans again, total prat). I will continue to watch it.
'Extra Gear' was alright, you can tell its a bit 'made for iPlayer' but I quite like both Rory Reid and Chris Harris so im hoping they get more comfortable as the show goes on. Im glad to have a bit more nerdy petrolhead stuff on TG and the trailer for the rest of 'Extra Gear' looks promising.
Weak link is Chris Evans, I already thought he was a tt but this solidifies it, seems like he is going to be jumping and shouting around like some sort of Court Jester between the actual good bits of the show.

underwhelming.. if felt overly scripted with a wooden delivery; things might improve as they get more comfortable with it..
MLB can take some credit for his Nomad piece. the US vs UK feature was disjointed - how much effort did they spend coming with that idea?
It was a a chance to do something new, instead they just tweaked the old team's structure and changed the track. They didn't pull it off; missed opportunity imo.
Extra Gear although clearly low budget was more interesting. Rory has some potential and quite enjoyed watching the heel toe action from Harris in the Nomad.. A slightly awkward comment from Sabine about making Rory turn pale (he saw the funny side)..

Just watching again on BBC America...
After listening to the somewhat drivel and also some constructive comments on here, Mr Shouty does seem to be overdoing it at every opportunity.
But, on reflection.. He is actively trying to involve the studio audience. Saying 'Everybody' after almost every sentence.
JC on the other hand would only consider or rfefer to the studio when he wanted a response.
Maybe this goes back to CE's TGIF days.? Which was a sort of winning formula 30 years ago.
I am sure feedback will be given following the first airing, which may have an effect on future episodes. I'm not holding my breath though.
Some US colleagues who have No prejudice to CE will give me their views in the office tomorrow....

Mrs Brown's Boys scores around 8.5 for each episode on IMDB also. Quite telling indeed.Get rid of Evans, find a better person to play off MLB possibly Rory, lose the stig and replace it with Sabine and CH each setting a lap time. Disappointing for the first episode. Evans shouts all the time with scripting written for Clarksons way of delivery. He's like a spoilt kid and there's no edge to him or any depth. ML did a good off road test and was amusing, came over as lots of potential.
Odd there was no team introduction at the start but then again I couldn't have stood Evans shouting it like a demented ringmaster.
For Evans it might just as well have been TFI Friday all over again.

As mentioned, the 2.7 / 10 on IMDB speaks volumes.
How many volumes does the 8.2/10 speak about the most recent episode of Mrs Brown's Boys? Sopranos quality?

I have a feeling they'll only drop from here and the BBC will finally have the excuse it's been looking for to drop TG completely.
If they had wanted rid of it they would have dropped it when Clarkson went raging bull over a sandwich. A more perfect opportunity would never occur. The idea they are spending millions making a sub-standard show to destroy "the brand" is tin foil hat territory.I have a feeling they'll only drop from here and the BBC will finally have the excuse it's been looking for to drop TG completely.
