What have they changed before?

I really hope the WoW avoids a lot of the silly bits from the show (such as going to capture a wight, which IMHO just seems to be an excuse to keep Cersie in the game for the next series).

Do you think GRRM will bother to write ADoS? I get the impression he will be more tempted to concentrate on spin off TV series.

They are very good at leaving windows open. But with only 6 eps left, there's not much to change I guess. Though the Golden Company could be a real game changer if they ever appear...

Let's not forget that a wight's hand was taken all the way to KL in Series one. Though everyone seems to have forgotten about that, maybe THorne got [pissed and spent 6 months in Mole's Town. biggrin I don't think he had returned by the time Jeor decided on the Great Ranging.

I think GRR will deffo want to finish ADoS, chapters of it are properly already completed knowing how he writes, he switches chapters around deciding on what he wants to reveal. It's his magnum opus, and it is gonna get me to read his back catalogue, that, and Preston helped. But I guess it depends on how much he isn pulled by HBO and others to get involved in all the other stuff that will now be happening, Hollywood is a fickle mistress.

Sam is heading North, who will get to carry Heartsbane ?

Since Jon already has one I think Sam would give it to Jorah, if he survives the trip North.

Any plausible theories on how Dawn could make its way North?

That was probably no bad decision to be fair. Dorne was the worst of the show. A waste of Jaime and Bronn for a season.

Watching Reign of Fire and I see a young Joffrey amongst the kids.

Seems he had an early start with dragon cinema.

Can't remember the size of it in the show, but wasn't it about as big as Ice in the books? So too big for any normal man to wield in a fight (Ice was a ceremonial sword, never used in combat because of it's size)?
I'd say Brienne but she has Oathkeeper, what about Sandor?

Otherwise it would need to be reforged into new weapons (a job for Gendry if he survives?) like Ice was.

This is true. When I saw him cast I was expecting big things.

Yeah, he gets it in the neck (or stomach) due to how they mishandled the others, sad.

Can't recall if Heartsbane is a two hander or great sword, Ice is a war sword, not one for everyday wear, like a normal longsword, the equal of a pistol. Greatswords were dangerous in the right hands.

Heartsbane is a great sword I think so the only men big enough to wield it effectively in the north would be tormund and the hound. More likely I can see gendry reforging it into two smaller swords that can be carried by anyone, beric and jorah would be my guess, possibly by doing this gendry will learn the secret to forging valerian steel.

In the video it is large but I think it is a hand and a half bd sword.

I agree the Hound would probably make the best use of it, but Sam doesn't really have any connection with him. Jon would probably be the default choice for Same but he already has the Mormont sword.

According to the video Gendry's old master knows how to reforge VS. This seems like a weak claim, else why would Tywin bring a sword smith from Volantis to reforge ICE. However If so there is the prospect that Gendry already knows, perhaps Sam might add or even just confirm some arcane knowledge in this regard. I think that what Sam has found out is that Obsidian plays a role in making VS.

Obsidian is mostly Silicon dioxide and is used in real life in iron and steel production/recycling.

Tywin wanted the best, and sending away for a bloke from far away also adds more prestige and is more ostentatious.
I think in the books there are three living smiths who can do it, and the bloke from Volantis is considered he best.

In the show they talk of reforging Valyrian steel, but they actually show them recasting the new swords with molten metal from ICE. Forging is working red hot bar or billet but forging is how swords are actually made. These produce steel with different properties, casting producing relatively hard and brittle steel, while forging is more ductile and durable.
