Either way, I have a feeling he'll have little to do with any further TV shows set in Westeros.
Which is a shame as I feel that while I enjoyed season 7, since it left the books behind the plot holes got bigger and a lot of fan service came in. I know the reasoning behind the shortened seasons (budget etc) but would have preferred it went an extra season to get more exposition and avoid the jarring inconsistencies of this season

It wasn't budget that cut the season from what I have read, the show runners said they found it too complex to film 10 episodes within the 12 month timeframe, and so were worried about not living up to the standards they had set prior. Reducing the number would allow them to focus more time on each episode.

Not sure why they didn't just delay the show by a year unless HBO didn't want a year without it, as would have been better if they had been longer. For example they filmed a scene where Sansa knocks on Bran’s door and says, “I need your help,” which would then better explain LittleFingers's demise. However it got cut.

I can't stand the books, incidentally. Began the first one and found it beyond tedius so I have bias there...
Agreed, but for some reason I've persevered through 4 of the things so far hehe. They'd be a lot easier if he didn't waffle on for 10 pages at a time describing what each character is wearing or what they're having for tea.

Agreed. I'm a contrary sod though, and one of the things that bored me most about the book was the attention to detail over how long it takes to get an army from here to there and so on...Whilst the thing that annoyed me most about the latest series on the TV was how armies were able to teleport about the place at will. hehe

I suspect there's a happy medium to be found somewhere (the way the early TV series were in fact!)

There are reasons for that.
Plus the army stuff, plus it al. The full (truth) story is in the detail.

What has always bugged me is is all the sadistic violence in some scenes while also having harry potter kid with mystic powers to draw the youth in. Thats american tv for you I suppose.Breeding more monsters.
It's nothing to do with American TV, and the fantasy elements are not to draw in kids.

You haven't read the books, I take it?
I looked at the box set on the shelf only the other day lol

having read some of the other posts just now I struggle to think they didn't have time.
I get the impression they decided to drag out a reduced scope end to the show over 2 seasons
Bizarre for a supposedly popular show to skimp on the budget but I guess wage demands went up every year.

They raced through material, and then when book 6 wasn't released they backpeddled and treaded water for a while keeping 'windows' open, but then the book still wasn't released they fudged a bit and ratttled through again.

This. Not really fair to blame the program makers for the drop in quality, just need GRRM to stop tinkering with the book and get it out. Book 6 needs to be VERY good to justify its continual delays.

Not sure I follow; i can't see how having a couple of pages describing what Jon Snow had for breakfast advances the plot.

The first 3 books were fantastic; i raced through them then I got to AFFC (book 4) which is one of the most boring fantasy books I have read. ADWD was a bit better but still felt unnecessarily long. The TV series did an excellent job of compressing those 2 books (about half of the story as written by GRRM) into one series.

Finally finished reading this thread having caught up with the show. I think that the producers/HBO etc missed a trick when they started on this journey, they must have paid GRRM a fortune for the rights to make the show, as such they should have tied him down to releasing any remaining books in time for them to be dramatised for the show.

Not sure if that is how stuff works in the entertainment/copyright world, but it makes sense to me.

The last season was definitely rushed and certainly lacked something that previous seasons had, but as someone said, it's still the best thing on TV at the moment.

I'm re-watching it all at the moment too, just done the red-wedding episode.

Even something as innocuous as what was had for breakfast can mean something.
Danni remembering a Lemon tree in Bravos gives away her early life is not what she was told
Moors Umber saying what pie he had in Winterfell is a way to decide who fake arya is in the story, there are other examples. The story has many layers going down which I never apprcated on my reading. The very dodgy story of the mountain and the start of the war.

In bullet point form over one long chat I believe.

As above when they agreed to purchase the rights they should have done so on the condition that the story for any unpublished volumes be provided to them in the form of detailed notes.

I wonder if Bran can also see the future?

He is the three eyed raven. Past, Present and Future = 3 eyes?

but only saw the wedding when Sam pointed it out to him: so although he can see everything, he doesn't necessarily see and know everything
