I really enjoyed the episode, it feels like it's setting the stage perfectly to me. I didn't realise Bran could see the future, he said he was waiting for someone, I guess that was Jaime.
Also he seemed to know that no-one is coming from Kings Landing (soldiers). Actually thinking about it, he hadn't seen the future, he had just seen Jaime travelling to Winterfell and seen that no soldiers were coming.
I liked the part when Sam told Jon all about his heritage, I'm with Sam, I'm not sure Danni will give up her throne on some book-worms findings or the vision of Bran.
I'd agree if we had 11 more episodes, but they've used up 1 and now only have 5 and surely 2 of those must be some mahoosive battle? Also he seemed to know that no-one is coming from Kings Landing (soldiers). It feels like they're rushing to get it finished - I'm sure I've mentioned this the past 2 or 3 seasons now. The content isn't quite there and some of the lines felt a little weak for me.
I think it's a bit lucky that it has a big following and there's nothing else which competes with it at the moment.

No, that was Lord "Captain Darling" Glover, he has locked his doors at Deepwood Motte which is Northwest of Winterfell. The dead boy was Lord Umber who had gone back to Last Hearth the closest inhabited Castle to the wall and where Ed & Nights Watch and Tormund & Beric had met following the army of the dead south.
Thats what I was trying not to say as it could spoil it for those who haven't yet watched.eps said:

A mixture of some decent scene-setting and some bits which were a bit meh.
Given it's such a significant part of the story, having Sam casually inform Jon he is the heir to the throne and Ned wasn't actually his father was a bit of a let down.
Bran is fecking annoying but the closing scene was good.
Is it me that is finding some of the dialogue a bit weak? Tryion, Bronn and Davos still great but some of the lines between Jon and Queenie were a bit stilted.
We started re-watching S1 and what you lose in SFX you gain significantly in performances, dialogue and intrigue.
That said, I can't wait for next week!

I love the series and characters, but this episode was one of the first where i thought some of the lines were a bit weak/cornySoul crushing stare - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bml7cgg9pAA
It is great to have it back on, even though ep1 was a bit scene-setting tedium its out of the way now.
I wonder, is there any relevance to the fact that the logo in the opening credits still has four sigil animals prominent?
Lion (Lannister)
Wolf (Stark)
Dragon (Targaryen)
Stag (Baratheon)

What i want to say is that i think GoTs would be better without it. Even though it introduces the premise for white walkers from the get go i think it would still be a great show if it continued on just the premise of warring houses and revenge killings. I kind of believe the story loses it's edge focusing on the army of the dead.
Not to say they couldn't have had the scenes in it, as it fits with faceless men ans dragons and red priestess shadow ans fire magic.

They seem to be setting her up to become 'the bad guy' but maybe that's misdirection. Also he seemed to know that no-one is coming from Kings Landing (soldiers). You certainly get the feeling that some sort of showdown is coming between Jon Snow and his auntie/girlfriend.

Yeah, but then she'll point out that Targs do in fact shag their aunties and they'll get back to it. Nothing revolutionary or unpredictable will happen. You certainly get the feeling that some sort of showdown is coming between Jon Snow and his auntie/girlfriend.
I sort of agree with the point about the WWs, but I think that's a failure in the writing really. They started off being completely mysterious, but that hasn't really developed. We know how they were made and what they look like now, but nothing else. And there isn't really time to develop the backstory now or understand what they're trying to do and why. There'll be a battle, a conversation and all will be revealed at once.
I'm really just watching to see how it ends now, I stopped being overly enthused by the story line sometime in Season 6 and the two year gap has further diminished my enthusiasm. I don't think anything really significant or interesting has happened since Hodor died has it?

Given GRRM is a history buff, i think hes based them on the Scots and them invading England way back when with William Wallace
Ayra's weapon is also very similar to something found in the Ninja era of Japan and somewhere else (but cant remember where)

This issue is perhaps well demonstrated by all the online theories linking the return/rise of the White Walkers with humans "breaking the pact" of giving up their male babies North of the wall, when Sam saved little Sam.
Completely fking ignoring everything that happened prior to that...
The whole Azor Ahai stuff has seemingly died. The Red Priests, disappeared. Dorne, seemingly completely irrelevant sidetrack. Same for Essos.
I remember being at around this point of the last season of Breaking Bad thinking "how can they tie all this up" - and over the course of three or four episodes they managed almost perfectly.
I can't say I have any confidence that'll happen with GoT.
