a few bits made me sad.

First, you've had 7 series with the same intro. Why make a new one with naff cgi?
Then do the bit we all knew was coming at some point on the first show?

It did make me smile that they had a contrived scene just so there were some arses out, even though it added nothing to the show. Like a nod to the early series...

It’s called sexposition, google it.

Anyone else have to squint during the stalking through the wrecked castle scene? darkovision is back.
Yep, scenes like that really make me wish I had OLED / HDR. It didn't look amazing on my ageing LED even with lights off and picture settings tweaked.
We recently bought an oled - the detail in the dark scenes is utterly superb.
Yep we have an LG OLED and it is very good in dark scenes, had no issues seeing what was going on last night. smile
I don't think the episode would be very watchable on anything else than an OLED, I can see the directors wanting to future proof the episodes using upto date tech but currently how many people have HDR 10 capable tv sets?
It looked perfectly good on my LCD screen, and it wasn't broadcast in HDR so that's irrelevant. Saying that though, it would suit the content brilliantly.
How is anyone watching in HDR10 on Sky? They don’t broadcast in it yet.

There is still a red priest in it. Denis Penis is with Dondarrion.
Good point - but for quite a while now he's just a silent-ish background extra...
So silentish in fact that you seem to have not noticed him die beyond the wall last season
I thought he had, but thought maybe I'd missed him surviving when the posters above mentioned him.
Nope, he dead.
You are quite right, I had forgotten that, he froze to death and was burned by Dondarrion. There was someone else with Dondarrion who looked like Denis last night.

It did make me wonder, were the rest of the blokes who got killed on that expedition the other brothers without banners? the archer etc... or just random wildlings?

He didn’t look that gay with the young ladies on Monday!

My teenage daughter hid under a cushion during that scene.

It feels like they're rushing to get it finished - I'm sure I've mentioned this the past 2 or 3 seasons now. The content isn't quite there and some of the lines felt a little weak for me.
yeah, some of the dialogue is dire.

I reckon that the WW wont progress any further South than Winterfell.
Given GRRM is a history buff, i think hes based them on the Scots and them invading England way back when with William Wallace
Ayra's weapon is also very similar to something found in the Ninja era of Japan and somewhere else (but cant remember where)
I reckon they'll get to KL, after a battle at WInterfell. THe wildlings are more analogous to the scots and picts. WW are closer to nuclear weapons.

Have to say I disliked the whole dragon jet fighter sequence....they have so few minutes and they waste time on this...and creepy drogon (Drogo) watching them? Plus...Ghost?

Oh and Bran/Jaime...mic drop!!!

It makes me wonder, GoT is the biggest show in the world with the biggest budget that makes the most money, why does it look like they’re cutting corners and doing it all in 6 episodes?

I remember the final season of Boardwalk Empire ended like that, along with Deadwood but these were sort of niche shows with a small amount of viewers compared to other popular shows so it makes sense as to why they’d try wrap it up as ratings are down and the budgets are being cut.

Does anybody have an explanation as to why the biggest most successful show in the world is being finished this way? I loved the first episode but I feel like I loved it for the wrong reasons, it was too resolved and easy to watch. I’m not complaining but I hope not every episode is going to be like this where it’s rushed.
D&D don't like living in ULster. BE was HBO's biggest show till GoT went nuclear. Deadwood was cut short and is getting the ending it deserved.

Rushing it? I'm wondering how they are going to fill 6 episodes, the end is nigh, the God of death has arrived and everyone is in one of two locations. 1 an opening intro to put all the players in their position, 1 episode Battle of Winterfell, 1 episode Battle of Kings Landing and 1 episode to crown the winner. What's in the other 2.

That's three seasons of episodes at the early season pace!

A waste of an episode. It's not like there's time for that much filler.

I thought that originally but id say the Wildlings are more like the Vikings with the smash and grab and then Jon letting them settle in the North to help fight a common foe = vikings settling in Norfolk and help fighting other Vikings

But then i cant figure out who the Golden Army would be historically (if we use my train of thought), as going by the books, they are linked to to the lost Targ who is more senior than Dani but is now Jon Snow for TV

yeah, the GC is only the largest and most illustrious of all the sellsword mercenaries in the story; we've seen a few, Dario Naeharis led one, and Stannis employed the stormcrows amongst others.

George uses more the pick'n'mix mix'n'match system, nothing is really linear. the wall is sort of based on the walls of Northern Britain, which kept the wilding barbarians out, but the Valyrian empire is the roman empire...sort of, and they didn't really conquer Westeros...but the Wall is the Roman wall, one which one sides exists law=those who bend the knee...and no law...those who do not bend the knee. Viking culture can be sort of seen in iron island culture (rape and reave, which is at odds with green land culture), and the culture of Norvos (not really seen in the show)
