Game of Thrones - vol II - NO SPOILERS
Discussion
I was absolutely crucified a couple of weeks ago for putting far less spoilery things in spoiler tags than some of you guys are doing.
Just saying.
(Personally I think anyone coming into this thread who isn't up to date with the latest episode screened at 2am is a chump. But that's just my opinion)

Totally with you on this. I’ve seen it but have also check in on this thread before having seen an episode and am fully aware of the the criticism thrown for even hints of mild spoilers. And that was before the final episode! Just saying.

Being very careful regarding spoilers...
The issue I have is that it very much feels like they've followed the limited numbers of breadcrumb story points, but in their navigating the bits in between, they've lost a huge amount of the interest and intrigue.
I think, having watched the finale, that I can see a much, much more interesting and "bittersweet" underlying story that hasn't been shown on screen.
It looked pretty, the score was pretty good, it has "closure". But it felt unsatisfying. Something a show like Breaking Bad really didn't.

I see my post got deleted...
What is the exact purpose of the spoiler tags on this entire forum? (which I used in my post)
As a group, are we now kowtowing to those who are unable to not click on the "reveal spoiler" text?
Someone decided the rules a while ago, they're different to the rules on the rest of the forum. Though when you check in it's pretty clear that if there was a vote, the majority would side with, "If you've not seen it, don't come in." But the issue goes away forever in a few hours.....What is the exact purpose of the spoiler tags on this entire forum? (which I used in my post)

Damn... you people are a bunch of miserable ....
... yes, past few seasons were a bit rushed, but the last episode was great... not quite sure what you expected to happen ??
I expected to be disappointed, that was baked in a few seasons ago, there was no way they were going to tell the story that they'd told for 5 seasons and there was no way to end things satisfactorily because so much of the story was undermined or cut.... yes, past few seasons were a bit rushed, but the last episode was great... not quite sure what you expected to happen ??
I enjoyed it as an episode, I enjoyed the season as a whole, but in the context of the first 5 seasons and also what could have been done, it is disappointing.
I get the counter-argument that these things are difficult, I know I couldn't have written a better story, so I'm not a hardliner on the story or how it should go. My disappointment is that the story looks like it's a result of a mix of laziness and ego; they didn't want to drag it out, so that had consequences, but I also think they haven't had any review or input into the story, if they're let a group of fans rip the scripts to bits and then they'd picked up the pieces and fixed them it would have come together as a much better story. They wanted it done, they thought they didn't need help.
The last thing that stands out for me is the wasted time, they shouldn't have done anything with Dorne beyond the skull-crushing, Euron Greyjoy was pointless and the daft trip to hunt a dead man too. There was plenty of fat to cut out to allow the fundamental flow of the series to be maintained.
We started episode 1, season 1 about 4 weeks ago when the house was being done and we had no TV signal so I bought a box set and thought we’d give it a go.
Instantly hooked, my boy said you now have some effort to put in before the last episode airs. We just made it as we watched episode 7, season 8 Saturday and just watched the finale.
Thought overall it was fantastic, season 8 wasn’t my favourite if I’m honest but happy overall.
Right.
What now.........

True. As you allude to, it was rushed in places yet inexplicably padded in others. But I enjoyed it as a series. And endings are always difficult in long-running shows. The ending in Mad Men wasn't exactly free of controversy either.
OT, but the problem with spoiler tags is the garbage net code the forum uses. (That and stupid people who moan about contents of a thread when they haven't seen the thing the threads designed to discuss...)
Tags are only applied once the page has finished loading, which is a long time after the text has loaded. So it's possible for text under spoiler tags to load as plain text waiting on an advert to finish loading from which ever unrelated 3rd party website are paying our overlords. Means people scrolling or looking at the page as the page loads could see text which would be covered under spoiler tags seconds later.
Back on topic, S8 needs to be burned and remade properly with less rush. You can already see the spin offs though - what's west of westeros etc.

Started watching Season1, Episode 1 about an hour ago. Lets see what all the fuss is about... I'm avoiding as much as possible, I imagine it'll take me a month or so to watch the lot.
Posted ^ 16th April. Now on Season 6, Episode 6 - not 'hooked' but too far in now to knock it on the head. Seen/heard of these poor reviews for S8 which is a little annoying as I wouldn't have bothered if I knew it ended poorly Abc321 said:

I wouldn't say that it ended poorly, just the tone of the show changed and became more dumbed-down / Hollywood than in the earlier seasons. Good luck with avoiding spoilers though. Especially in this thread where, contrary to the thread title, spoilers are fair game after the 9pm screening ends.
