Yeah, early GoT is best GoT. In fact, I'd stop at the end of S6 and leave it there.
GoT in the first few seasons was simply brilliant.
The first four seasons were adaptions of the first three books. It was a good adaption but most of the quality was in those books.GoT in the first few seasons was simply brilliant.
For Season 5 and season 6 they still had two books left to adapt, but they were a sprawling mess so they cut out masses of material and invented some new stuff to fill the holes.
Then in Season 7 and 8 they started to run into the problem that they had run out of book material AND what could reasonably extrapolated from where the books left off. They were on their own and sadly despite being good show runners, and competent adapters, they were no GRRM. Not even close.
Great writing is not easy and we probably only have a handful of great writers every generation.
I'd thoroughly recommend the books to anyone if you can handle the fact that it'll be years and years before the final two books - The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring - ever arrive, if at all. I think GRRM has himself in such a deep muddle with it all, he doesn't know how to write his way to the ending now.
Just checked and A Dance with Dragons was released 9 YEARS ago... Oof.

Given the st-show they made of GoT I won't be bothering with any other TV shows linked to it.
I just want him to finish the damn books to be honest.
A bit like the top gear thread if you don’t like it please don’t watch. Seems insane to force yourself to watch something you dislike & then go online and tell others about that fact. I just want him to finish the damn books to be honest.

I'm sure that when a new thread is created about whatever the new show is I won't post on it, nor be watching the show.

I'm just still subscribed to this thread from posts made in the past. I won't 'force myself to watch' anything; my last post was thread-related and perfectly valid so stop trying to be 'post police'.

It will be worth watching - have you tried The Witcher on Netflix as an interim it’s rather good. I'm sure that when a new thread is created about whatever the new show is I won't post on it, nor be watching the show.

Almost as insane as pretending to buy a porsche when pissed and going online to tell people about it...

But HBO want you to watch new things so probably destroyed it on purpose.
Why would they want you to watch new things? It would be far more profitable for them if you just kept watching the same shows, especially repeats.Unless the new things were a lot cheaper to make
