What helped me, discovering GoT very belatedly, was watching it with a superfan who doesn't mind seeing it all again and can explain any bits you're struggling with. It is hard to follow in the early stages.

My problem was the number of characters and that a lot of the men looked the same biggrin

Some of the stuff is straightforward, but the Stark girl that was dressed as a boy got some Lannister solider to kill two other Lannister soldiers. I've never seen him before, and have no idea why he killed the first one (pushing him of a wall) and why he's even killing the soldiers for her. All season 2, episode 6 or 7.
Not a Lannister soldier although he's dressed as one, she saved him earlier on. He's essentially a high priced assassin known as a faceless man, you'll find out why later.
Don't dismiss people as incidental characters, they will pop up do, a little of something then come back later on. Other characters you think are important will never get mentioned again.

Not much plot armour in GoT.

Don't try and remember everyone's name, shorthand/descriptors are fun I always like Ser Friendzone (aka Jorah Mormont)

Maybe this helps jog your memory, when she was travelling he was locked in a cage, she saved him when st was on fire.

I'm late to the party, but just started watching GoT.
I'm half way through the second season, and I'm really struggling to follow the multiple plot lines/characters.
Is there a good idiots guide I can use?
Struggle on and it will all become clear
or just give up?
You can also use https://quartermaester.info/ as a source. It has a spoiler control so you can select which episode you're at and it won't give any further information. Helps with showing where people are and then you can work out why. You can click the names for resources on their history and lore without show spoilers, though there are book spoilers within to avoid.

EG. if you select Stannis Baratheon at your stage it'll show him at Dragonstone.

A lot of us who got into to the show when it aired would discuss as it went along and rewatch a series before a new one aired. It is complicated, but the complications made it exciting.

I’ve watched it 6 times and even the sixth time I saw something I hadn’t seen before.

3 times through for me, and yes, there is always something you spot. Especially small seemingly throw away comments or background things suddenly taking on weight !
Also helps to have the GOT Wiki to hand as well whilst viewing.

A thing I noticed recently when rewatching, Viserys gets hurt by the hot wax when in the bath in S1E4? yet Danny can walk into boiling water/hold a red hot dragon egg.

Oooof, Rains Of Castamere. I forgot just how truly horrific this episode is. The gut wrenching realisation. Catelyns face when she sees Boltons chain mail….. that song. Eugh.

The Lannisters send their regards.

Despite transporting various parts of the sets and crew property to various locations I have never seen any of the episodes and never likely to .

it's foreshadowing. Him calling himself the true Dragon to the Targaryans yet he gets hurt by hot wax means he's not the ''chosen dragon''.

See it as if being ginger is a super power...having children as a ginger won't guarantee your child is ginger, Daenerys was the genetic chosen one, not her brother. She was the one that was far more resistant to heat than her idiot brother.

I've another question about plot.

The guy with the burnt face is fighting the guy with an eye patch (season 3 episode 3 or 4) to see who's pants are on future.

Patchy nearly gets his arm cut off, but 30 seconds later he's all good..

The Hound and Beric?
Doesn't Dennis Pennis (Thoros and Myr) bring him back? The flaming sword comes in handy.

Yes, Thoros of Myr is a red priest (the lord of light) and has bought Beria back from the dead 6 times (including this time)

His power (well, the channelling of the lord of light) is much quicker than we see with Jon later in the show!

That's a pretty massive spoiler chap!
