Dunkirk - Christopher Nolan film
Discussion
Sounds like a publicity stunt. Although I'm pretty sure somebody somewhere in the creative process will have thought it a great idea, "meh, it's just an old plane". Some types just don't care. I've heard horror stories about people lending classic cars to film companies and getting them back with all sorts of damage where they've fitted cameras and the like.

Definitely one for me in 2017.
Do you have some more confirmation of the allegation that he deliberately destroyed a rare warbird aircraft?
I've certainly heard nothing along those lines - and I read the various warbird related magazines such as "Aeroplane" and "Flypast".
I just had another look and this is where I originally read it, but it seems to be sourced from another online film blog which claims sources within WB. So may well be nonsense.Do you have some more confirmation of the allegation that he deliberately destroyed a rare warbird aircraft?

Has anyone been yet?
We don't get it until Friday in the US. I'm going next week. We only have one theatre in the city that shows it in 70mm so I'm going to see it there.
The trailers look fantastic, saw one on the big screen last month and it made me want to see it. Great cast, no fake Americanism (U571) and no CGI apparently, I think it will be very good. Nolan got $20 mill and 20% of the gross.

The reviews are all very very good.
Though people are deservedly taking the piss out of the USA Today one...
The reviews are a little odd... in that, I cant remember a film that's been this universally adored.Though people are deservedly taking the piss out of the USA Today one...
The trailers were st but I'm really, really looking forward to this now.

Terrible film, just a bunch of white people huddling on the beach, who wants to see that? Should have cast Melissa McCarthy, Kevin Hart and Snoop Dogg in the leads then followed their wacky hijinks as they try and escape the Nazis whilst keeping their weed stash intact.Though people are deservedly taking the piss out of the USA Today one...
I'm looking forward to watching it as my Dad was in the RN at the time and on survivors leave after his ship had been torpedoed in the North Sea. He was recalled from leave, boarded a trawler at Ramsgate and was sent ashore at Dunkirk to blow up all the kit left behind, vehicles and so on. He told me it was the first time he'd ever driven anything - helluva place for a driving lesson...

Do remember to report back!
Well, just got back. A very good film, it took a little while to gather all the stories together but as the film continued I felt it got better and better.
I got a real sense of how frightening and horrifying the events must have been. I truly don't think my generation (mid 30's) appreciate just what life was like during those years.
A solid 9/10.

I don't think it's completely devoid of CGI. There are scenes showing Stukas dive bombing the beach and there are no airworthy Stukas.
There is nothing wrong with CGI in itself. The important thing is that the CGI is realistic.
Possibly used large scale RC models. Years ago I worked in a model shop and the guy that owned it had flown out to north Africa to fly the RC helicopters used in Black Hawk Down. They got the local army to shoot them down. May have done a similar thing here. There is nothing wrong with CGI in itself. The important thing is that the CGI is realistic.
