As others have already said 'Dunkirk' 1958 staring John Mills is a million times better. More accurate, more realistic & a better watch.

Isn't it just. There are far too many 'eh...?' moments in Nolan's half baked effort.

Based on what I have read the few minutes of Dunkirk scenes in Atonement capture the chaos and scale of Dunkirk far better than the near 2 hours of Nolan’s over complex under researched mess.

Different battle of course but "A Bridge too far" remains the gold standard for me.

Ah , but that is because it was filmed in Redcar, which always feels as though it's a war zone under siege .

There was a TV series, featuring the Coldstream guards, in the rearguard, and the capture of wounded and medics. Can't remember the name but it was very good.

Well, except for Gene Hackman's accent, but no one's perfect. Longest Day is another great one as well, that sweeping overhead single take of the attack on the hotel was seriously impressive for the time.

The Cruel Sea for me.
The naval action scenes in the Battle of the river Plate are bloody good too

The military sketches in Michael Bentine's Potty Time were better than Dunkirk...
