A lot of the podcasts are listen to are about people's personal stories and experiences but it's just occurred to me that, possibly as a result of the growth of the industry and independent casters being swallowed up by the large studios, this range of subjects has narrowed where everything seems to be presented to me by middle class media types, featuring their own friends and relatives and connections.
I've always hated that format going back to the days of radio when you'd have (and often still do) a DJ and their sycophantic producers laughing at their jokes.
So one right now is about the cuisine of the presenter's friend's, husband's immigrant grandmother, with the friend of the show doing the narration.
What's the issue with that you may ask, but a few I used to love were literally about the man on the street, telling their own story. Perhaps they were sourced via friends of the show, but it was natural.
'Everyone Else' was one in that particular vain. Does anyone know of anything similar?

I'm struggling a bit for podcasts at the moment.
Smith and Sniff is my only regular, but other than the occasional James English, I'm struggling for inspiration.
Did crypto queen, last voyage of pung su, grey zone, cautionary tales (which has now gone covid signalling), I'm even struggling with Mince.
Any thoughts? Like above, I struggle with media darlings talking to their mates.

A general question, what method do people use to catch up podcasts, or YouTube channels etc.
Clearly output has gone up over lockdown, podcasts that were occasional offerings, folks have increased output to weekly sometimes even daily.
So when you find a new one what do you do, listen in sequence from number 1, usually a pilot episode and then work through in order, or start from the latest and work back, each end towards the middle, or just dip in and sample as you fancy. And do you then join the patreon subscribers when they try and monetise it.
For example I picked up on We Have Ways, Al Murray and James Holland on WW2. Currently 369 episodes. I started at 1 and went through in sequence, currently about 330 ish but also some of the later ones played too, not sure of total number. Can get a bit tiresome hearing Holland having the same rant for the 5th time though. And while you're working your way through however many episodes there are other offerings that are stacking up. So I've sacked Al and Jim off for a bit and having a dip around.
What do others do? Not enough hours in the day. I know there's a couple of Chris Harris on Collecting Cars that I need to catch up on, too many of Smith and Sniff, not to mention the Intercooler...

Thanks, that's a good summary which aligns with my findings, currently using Podbean which is OK. Though does have a tendency to re-follow you (is that a term?) up to stuff you've already tried and then unfollowed, yes looking at you J Paxman, just bugger off!
Yes the Nicky Grist episode was so good listened to it more than once. Robert Reid is the one really need to catch up on. Also who can forget the PetrolTed episode.

Just resigned myself to the issue that there's just too much stuff out there on any particular topic. So many rabbit holes to go down.
Please excuse the following bit of getting it off my chest.
The other thing that's really irritating, although it's my family so nothing anyone can do about that, is they complain when I listen to podcasts. Listening through headphones or ear buds they just walk into wherever I happen to be kitchen, garage, garden, office and take no notice that I'm not paying them attention because listening to podcast, easily missed with ear buds admittedly less so with headphones, then start talking and asking questions, then get the huff on because I've ignored them and they have to stop and start all over again. Question answered they clear off, pod restarted, literally two minutes later they walk in and repeat, ignore I'm listening again, start talking, stop get in a huff rinse and repeat. It's like living with sodding goldfish. So I got a Bluetooth speaker to make it clear I'm listening, then they get in a huff because I'm listening to "car/WW2/science/history etc rubbish" yet if I turn it off when they come in because I know they'll start talking at me, then apparently I'm in a huff because I've switched it off and they didn't want to ask anything, just wanted something off a shelf. So it's got to the point where if, say, I'm in the kitchen doing dinner then just don't bother with the podcasts anymore. I've got to do a couple of big batch cook ups for the freezer stock up today, ample opportunity to listen and catch up. Will note how many interruptions.
