Again for OHMSS. It's the best book also.

Watch it every Christmas. With a Martini.

I quite like it but given that it's coming after Adele and Sam Smith, it had a spectacularly low bar to aim at.

I like OHMSS but it's Goldfinger at number one for me I'm afraid.

Connery? Check
DB5? Check
Gadgets? Check
Bong girl name with appropriate amount of innuendo? Check
Good henchman? Check

It's also the most quotable.

Just need to blank out Tilly Masterson and her wooden acting.

Au contraire, we use quotes from OHMSS on a daily basis.

My favourites are "for the time being" (referring to Sir Hilary's 'stiffness' of last night).

and "I'm not a sporting man, Fräulein, even when I'm at my best"

Classic lines. I like the real Sir Hillary "Its not our sort of thing"

Nerd alert. We have all the time in the world was the first dance at my wedding.

I've used that line a good few times.

Also "from here we go up into the Alps" on driving up any steep hill.

And "won't that be frightfully energetic?" whenever any planned task is announced.

It's important with all of these to get the intonation right, of course.

Pleasant enough ditty, just completely unmemorable. Like a good few of the last Bond themes.

The best description I heard of Sam Smiths 'effort' was that it sounded like it was composed on Monty Pythons mouse organ.

I’ve heard it a few times today and it’s growing on me. I like it. The modern Craig era theme nobody mentions is the Jack White/Alicia Keys song. I think it’s great: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hM5UJvnbbuY I agree too about OHMSS as the best soundtrack - there are some absolute classics on there (and my favourite Xmas song ‘Do you know how Christmas Trees are grown’) John Barry was the absolute master of Bond music and has never been bettered IMO.

Just listened to it all the way through and my first impression is that the song itself is way too similar to The Writing's on the Wall - heck, you can even sing the lyrics of that previous song over this one and they fit!

On that basis this song is better because Eilish doesn't sing like a goose honking in the fog, but I was expecting better.

For me Diamonds are Forever was the peak James Bond song. The film was pish but the title track epitomises everything everyone expects from a Bond theme.

Joint second places to Nobody Does it Better and Live and Let Die because they stand alone as good songs regardless of their Bond connection.

We Have All Ze Time in Ze World is a great tune, but the 007 action music is the best in that film for me, it's on my running tracks.

I agree with you.

A Bond track should be powerful, this is a squeaky gate sort of sound. Somehow actually worse than Black / Keys.

Perhaps they should have dragged Dame Shirley out for a final swan song.

Amy Winehouse is the one that got away.

That's going some! Another Way to Die is almost acceptable until they do that 'freestyling' shouting halfway through. IMO in retrospect everything about Quantum of Solace was judged too harshly at the time, especially in the light of the derivative dross that were its two successors.

yes
Although she was a hit and miss and could be just as capable of imitating the goose-in-the-mist as Sam Smith is (I don't refer to her as Nasaly Whinehouse for nothing).

I still think that John Newman should have got a crack at it, because he can bang out a tune with some swagger in a way that appeals to the young 'uns. I reckon that boat has sailed too now.

Re OHMSS
The new Coors light advert made me think that Piz Gloria was used in part of it
Evidently though it was filmed in the Rocky Mountains
