It’s not great.
I disagree. It did absolutely the best it could with a franchise that was losing its raison d'etre (cold war etc.) and pivoted to an absolutely on-topic protagonist for the time ie. a drug-baron who having successfully taken control of a central-American country was seeking to influence neighbouring countries via military power. It also had a great cast with Robert Davi as the charismatic but utterly cruel villain and Anthony Zerbe as his drunkard frontman smuggler. Also the first major role for Benicio del Toro.
Compared to A View to a Kill and Diamonds are Forever it was a masterpiece.

It was probably better in it's time but it hasn't aged well (not many have to be fair).

A dearth of James Bond news always leaves a vacuum for rubbish like this..
MEET THE NEW M
Why is this BS? Phoebe Waller-Bridge is now under-contract with Disney (attempting to revive the Indiana Jones franchise) while EON (James Bond productions) has since been acquired by rivals Amazon as part of their take-over of MGM. PWB will not be involved in the next Bond film unless lots of money changes hands (and I don't believe for a minute Amazon will think her input is worth paying through-the-nose for).
Sun reporter stringing bits of out-of-date information together for clickbait shocker.
Film insiders say the unlikely casting talks came after the success of This Country star Daisy’s close pal Phoebe Waller-Bridge, 37, joining the franchise as a script consultant.MEET THE NEW M

ITV4 is showing Timothy Daltons second and least bond film Licence to Kill later tonight
It’s not great. Although, as with all Bond films, it has its moments. What happens to Felix is hard core. (Spoiler tags even those it’s almost impossible anyone reading this thread will be unaware what happens.)The long break before recasting was good for the franchise. Although it might’ve have been interesting to see what they would have done with a 3rd Dalton film.
Dalton was dull Bond
Miss Moneypenny was dull
M was played as a dull civil servant
Dullard Bond was off after this one

Like most Bond films the first halves of both films were good but the second halves were crap.
As soon as Bond meets the baddie the films turn to turd.
Again, I am going to defend LTK for being completely different in this respect. The key plot point of the second act of LTK is that James Bond, stripped of his status as an agent, has to use his own guile to get close to villain (and now personal enemy) Sanchez by convincing Sanchez that he's working for him and it is other rogue elements within his organisation who are plotting against him.As soon as Bond meets the baddie the films turn to turd.
Every other Bond film gets stupid at the point he meets the baddie because it invariably turns into a prolonged effort to eliminate Bond in some elaborate way rather than just a clean kill (which of course The Simpsons made a complete skit of in "You Only Move Twice").
LTK is in some very specific ways un-Bondian (compared to the other movies if not the books), but a little more sophistication to the plot was no bad thing IMO, especially as it took the franchise away from the silly tropes that Austin Powers aped.
It was a good effort to refresh/keep the franchise alive and it largely succeeded.

Now I came across this on a "facts about Skyfall article" Link below
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/lifestyle/travel/20-fact...
The article states that :
"Bond ends up off the grid for a while in Skyfall after he is shot and seriously injured early on. This is not something that happens to 007 as much as you might think. In fact, this was only the second time Bond had ever suffered a gunshot wound in a movie. The first time? All the way back in Thunderball."
I'm sure this isn't correct I just cannot remember Bond ever being shot
Am I right or is the article ?

Bond does get shot in Thunderball the movie, in the calf area as he is running away from the Junkanoo. Largo's henchmen follow him and try and shoot him on the dance floor while he is dancing with the ginger lady. She gets shot. "Do you mind if my friend sits this one out...she's just dead". He gets hit as he running away and ties his handkerchief around the wound.
Can't think of any other time he gets shot either in the books or the films.

In the books, From Russia With Love comes before Dr No and in them he gets stabbed by Rosa Klebs poisoned shoe-knife because his Beretta jams. This is then referenced in the film Dr No when M demands to see his gun and he says "yes this damn Beretta again". Bond objects and says its never let him down, and M says it jammed on him last job and he spent time in hospital. He then asks Major Boothroyd (predecessor to Q) to tell him, who says its a ladies gun and gives him the Walther PPK.

On that we can agree. I love A View to a Kill and Diamonds are Forever. Infact DaF was on TV last week and was a real weekend treat. Couple of hours of brain out entertainment. Like most of the older Bond films. A certain charm and silliness.
