I'll watch it but its unnecessary distraction from the movie franchise, it was "James Bond day" yesterday was hoping for an announcement about the actor.

My guess is that we are some way off that yet.

Die Another Day was released in 2002, DC was announced in 2005 and Casino Royale released in 2006.

I would expect an announcement just before shooting of the next film commences.

Being as NTTD was released in 2021 and given the current Hollywood writer and actors strikes, I'd expect filming for the next Bond to commence maybe late in 2024 for a late 2025 release.

Traditionally, the Director is agreed first and then the actor is chosen. This allows the Director to have a say so, as someone else has said, we are a little way off agreement to the actor.

Thanks

If the Nolan rumors are true it could be a way off agreeing the director. There is a story that he wants to do period Bonds based on the books and set in the 50s/60s. Personally I think that would be great, but I can see why the producers would be reticent to do so. Not least because of the loss of product placements.

That could work with my prediction many pages back after NTTD aired.

My prediction was a split story, in modern times a male or female 007 saving the world and a flashback story to James Bond 007 in the 50/60/70's. Modern story would get the product placement etc. I had this hunch off how the story ended "let me tell you about James Bond".

I don't think that's a bad shout, maybe even without the modern segment making it wholly a period film. I would have thought that if the companies looking for product placement existed back in the 50s/60s they just need to get 'limited edition' versions of their modern day products out there, e.g. bottles of Heineken with the 50s branding (if they existed back then - no idea!).

After all Aston Martin got involved with providing the multiple DB5s and DBS in NTTD, with just 30 seconds of a modern car somewhere in there and they can't sell any more DB5s and 70s DBS (the continuation DB5s weren't connected and would have sold anyway).

Yeah I'm sure the car and drinks companies etc could get stuff in. There was plenty of name checking if brands in the books. The likes of Sony and Nokia etc would be out of luck.

Both existed in the 60's but not sure they could product place anything in the films.

The Sony logo has been prominent on screens in many Bond films, going back to the '60s.

Edit: From You Only Live Twice...

Yeah I just meant they usually like to get the latest gadget in the film. Didn't they recently reshoot part of NTTD because of the covid delay the phone was out of date. Or did I imagine that.

I think we are in for an even longer hiatus than the Brosnan/Craig transition. Die Another Day pasted them into a corner, and it was only through acquiring the rights to Casino Royale as a serendipitous by-product of the deal between MGM and Sony Columbia that let them do a hard reboot of the character (that morphed into a soft reboot).

They are going to have to do that again but they don't have the benefit of a ready-prepared origin story to fall back on this time.

In the meantime - can we have a Paloma spin-off movie please!!

I think it's pretty much certain that Nolan would be excellent, however, given how much control he likes to have over his films I assume the negotiations to get him on board would be pretty complicated. We saw Danny Boyle walk for similar control reasons in the end didn't we? I can't see Nolan agreeing unless he has free reign.

As for who to play Bond next I agree with a lot of the previous names however they're all too old now. They've missed the boat on some fantastic talent who would have been exceptional. Aaron Taylor-Johnson would get my vote currently, he's got the look and he's the right age plus with Bullet Train he proved he could do serious action with a touch of comedy thrown in.

I was surprised to see Goldfinger on ITV 4 tonight.
I then saw that several others were to be shown over the next few nights from different eras
I did wonder if maybe ITV had lost its contract to show them and someone else had got them for a few years. A quick google search found this post

It wouldn't surprise me if they licence the likeness of Connery and do it with AI. hehe

Very brave is a bit of an understatement hehe

But it would be a genius way of getting the whole franchise moving again

Amazon now own the rights to James Bond as a result of their acquisition of MGM.

Amazon Buys MGM, Studio Behind James Bond, for $8.45 Billion

There's a school of thought that EON were happy to crash Bond into the ground knowing their share of this payday was coming anyway.
