"Take care of Mr Sheeran. See that some harm comes to him."

If only. I suppose he follows on naturally from the Adele and Sam Smith descent into darkness.

Bjork's 'Bachelorette' popped up on my playlist the other day. Now that would have made a great Bond theme.

There's a couple of Goldfrapp tracks on 'Supernature' that would have worked. I believe they were actually approached but the studio wanted too much artistic control.

Portishead's 'Dummy' also has some themic tracks, although there's more of a Deighton/Le Carre vibe there.

Christ. Not only can I not stand Ed Sheeran and think this will be awful, but I will never hear the end of it from my daughter who is obsessed with him..l

Tomorrow Never Dies on tonight, Bond is just doing his HALO jump and is told to use his oxygen because they are so high and if he didn't he will die, meanwhile the rear of the aircraft is open and no one inside the aircraft is using any masks. Small thing but always annoys me. There is worse.

It does have that amazing leather jacket in one of the best pre-title sequences...probably top 5 sequence.

I totally agree. I think the pre credits sequence in this movie is one of the very best. It isn't overlong as the next one seemed to be. It's totally action packed and really well done.
Tomorrow Never Dies just does it for me it's daft glorious and as far fetched as anything. I had the joy of watching it last night with my fast approaching teen daughter and she really enjoyed it. I also think that Pierce looked great in it better than in his debut. It's the Bond movie that just climbed up there in my estimation and I realised a couple of years ago that if I was honest I liked it more than many others.

Me too, the pre-title sequence on this is great. The music, the first-person view as the missile approaches, all of it really. I was sure they'd cut a bit out of the dogfight section last time this was one, but the bit I thought was cut (where he ejects the "back seat driver" into the other plane - which I recall being cut out because the quip didn't make much sense with the actual ejection missed out) was in last night, but that whole section seemed a little shorter than I remember.

As for the rest of the film, I seem to recall it has one or two awful bits in it - I recall watching it for the first time, being really into the start, then losing interest a bit as the film goes on. The part about "introducing software with known bugs so people will have to keep upgrading" was really shoe-horned in, and I don't like it when film-makers add that kind of stuff in, especially as there wasn't any need for it. We get it, we've identified he's the villain, there's no need to add in stuff like that alongside the whole torturing, killing, starting a war stuff.

The opening scene is great. I like "as time goes by" bit with Geoffrey Palmer as the Admiral. After that it all goes a little bit too pantomime. Pryce is over the top and not in a good way. The torturer "I could shuuuooot you from Schttugaaart and make it look like a suicide" is appaling, the hench man. Its all a bit Austin Powers. When you look back at the Brosnan era now its not much different to the Roger Moore ones, except Brosnan is trying to be serious. At least Moore knew it was a piss take,

Let's not forget Teri Hatcher's pretty poor turn as a Bond girl (although I think Halle Berry was the worst).

The Doktor scene is more like comedy, as my wife pointed out. Doesn't sit right considering it's juxtaposed with Paris's death.

They brought back Jack Wade but he's just a useless buffoon here.

Please forgive me if I read it on this thread (and hence it's a repost) but I read that the original title was "Tomorrow Never Lies" which, considering that Eliot Carver's newspaper was called Tomorrow, and his use of Fake News, made far more sense.

It's a fair point actually. Roger Moore's Bond always had a knowing wink to the audience and acknowledged that it was all a bit Pantomime and silly. yes

I think the writers started treating it as a bit of silly fun with Diamonds Are Forever. (Bond talking to a rat!)
Roger Moore was perfect for the role at that point. TSWLM is the best of the ‘70s Bond films because they got the tongue-in-cheek humour just right. (As well as the stunts, huge production, Lotus Esprit etc.)

I think it is the stuff of general knowledge now that she was struggling with the performance due to suffering morning sickness and other consequences of being pregnant but was frightened to tell anyone on set because she didn't want to be replaced..

I recall reading she didn't get on with PB so was mean to him.
