Saw it last night - was pretty good, great humour - another one in the bag for the MCU.

I don't think the vol2 playlist was as good as the first film though - quite a few obscure songs thrown in there.

What is the age for this film? My son loves Guardians but is only 5 so not sure if he'd be allowed in hehe
12A. BBFC says "moderate fantasy action violence, sex references, bad language"

There are a few swear words, people get killed, jokes about turds and penises
Cheers!

Is there anything particularly scary apart from the tentacle thing in the trailer?

I thought the slaughter on the Raiders' ship was a bit long and quite graphic and Starlord's reaction when he gets the news about the cause of his mother's brain tumour may upset a 5 year old. Other than that it's all pretty cartoony.

Thanks. I'll go watch it on my own first and then see if it'd be ok (just to be on the safe side!).

I saw it today. First time in a long time that I (and pretty much everyone else in the cinema) laughed so much, and out loud, at a film.

Simply brilliant. Great cast, great story. At points it felt a bit over-long, but it was great value for money! Lots of great lines, I'd happily pay to see it again. Even better having watched the first one recently on TV, so it was fresh in my mind.

Edit: Whatever you do, don't rush out when the credits roll. Stay right to the end. There's loads of stuff in, and after the credits... wink

I saw it this afternoon. Well worth seeing if you liked the first one.

I think the BBFC think 12A should mean minimum 12, unless the parent thinks their kid can handle themes that are suitable for a 12yo.
It's probably OK at home with the lights on, when you can explain that everyone's OK and it's only a movie. But not sure about watching loads of people being impaled by a flying arrow on a giant screen in a dark cinema.

Just watche dit and really enjoyed it. Loved the music, love the big fights set to 80's classics and it's just a massively fun and visually impressive and satisfying film.

And Drax is possibly the funniest character in any of the marvel universe films. Dave Bautista honestly delivers his lines perfectly and I felt he stole every scene he was in.

Saw it in IMAX last night. Genuinely, genuinely funny and even better than Vol1. No spoilers, but Drax steals every scene!

I'm amazed that no one has used him properly in other films. He's completely wasted as hulking non-speaking villain. I don't think it is just the script, the actor must be bringing a lot to the part.

Just on this - we just got back from watching it and obviously there were quite a few younger than 12 kids there. Not a problem for the main movie particularly, but the 'age appropriate' trailer for Alien Covenant did cause a bit of a scramble to get to a couple of younger ones. The trailer was pretty tame, but you can imagine the parents' panic when it became obvious which movie it was hehe

GotG 2 was brilliant though, right up there with the first. Just a very good fun movie, wonderful special effects and soundtrack. Agree on Drax stealing every scene, but Zoe Saldana's bottom ran him a close second biggrin

The BBFC web site says "Films classified 12A contain material that is not generally suitable for children aged under 12." So a parent might think their 11, 10, or 9 year old is OK with the material, but 5?

However the 12A certificate seems to have become pointless as many people seem to take children of any age to a 12A film irrespective.

By the way, I got distracted by age rating talk, and forgot to mention I bloody loved to movie. As good as the first, although it didn't have the supprise factor. (Vol. 1 had a rubbish trailer and marketing campaign, so the film was a pleasant surprise.) I was charmed right from the opening scene, where they ignored the big boss fight to concentrate on Baby Groot dancing to ELO. I like the fact that the film uses the action as mainly a backdrop, and focus on the family-of-misfits humour. I don't even mind the American sentimentality.
And I like the stuff that was thrown in just for those of us that were fans of Marvel comics in the '70s.

I'd worry about anyone who could possibly think that taking a 5 year old to see something like Guardians was remotely appropriate or even worthwhile. Bizarre.

I know a few people who are showing their 5yr olds similar, and I agree with you.

Went to see it yesterday and yes, I really loved it. Laughing the whole way through pretty much

Sadly my experience was tainted a little by the complete F**wit sat next to me who decided to have to give his girlfriend a running commentary all the way through. He probably thought he was only whispering but it was loud enough for me to hear. He was a little indignant when I asked him to stop after about half an hour of this but he did eventually shut up.

Its not something I would take a 5 year old to see. There are a few bits that might be disturbing for such a young child (aliens, death, cremation, a person reforming as a skeleton/organs/muscle etc). Its harmless if a child understands its all make believe, but I'm not sure a 5 year old can process that, especially on a big screen.

But putting thought into whether or not you should take a child to the film in case it's not appropriate would require effort and, you know, parenting skills.

I think a lot of people these days just go to see whatever they want and assume it's OK to bring a young child along, as long as the certificate doesn't actually preclude them from bringing the child into the cinema. Way too much hassle to arrange a babysitter and go themselves. They don't seem to have any concept that something might not be suitable for a young child to watch.

Saw this last night in 3d, I was a bit worried going into the film as the critics weren't exactly glowing but I have no idea what film they watched because this was brilliant. Easily up there with the first film for fun and action. In fact I'd go so far as to the say the two Guardians films are probably up there with the very best from MCU.

Great humour, great characters, good special effects and great use of colour, even the 3D was pretty decent.

My only slight disappointment was that the plot development for Kurt Russell's character was telegraphed a mile off and it's VERY cliched but the rest of the film is so much fun that I can give that a pass.
