Typically Sky progs start 2 or 3 mins after the advertised start time whereas BBC typically start 4 or 5 mins after due to plugging its own programs. No adverts during the footy or films (unlike ITV).
Wrong way round, surely. Record an hour long BBC programme and it'll be 59 minutes of content starting and ending on the button.

Well I "need" Sky in order to get the F1 Channel...
I know it's Sky really, but Now TV covers F1 just fine for me. For the races that aren't on C4, I pay £6.99 for a 24 hour pass. This is how I know that there are adverts on Sky.
I've been considering Now TV but the sums just don't work for what I watch. I'd need the entertainment pass and movie pass which is £17, then I need to pay £7 per day time to watch F1 which is expensive if I also want to watch the qualifying which means roughly £25 per month. Then on top of that I need a good broadband line, roughly £40 per month with line rental. Total £82 per month.

Although I'm the dream customer for Sky because I pay extra for an additional room for Sky plus the ability to watch it on a tablet etc while away from home. I can count on one hand how often I use these things per year so I clearly have more money than sense. I need to accept F1 is now boring rubbish that I normally sleep through and I'd save a fortune.

No, that's my point. I don't watch much on the BBC but if do record it when I watch it you have to put +5 on the start (e.g. MOTD) to skip the lengthy intros and plugs for other progs. I've literally just done this now and +5 minutes got me into the middle of the MOTD theme tune. Same for Strictly for the kids.

In contrast, for recorded Sky progs I put +2 or +3 in to skip "normal" adverts. Of course the non-film, non-sport progs will then have adverts in the middle that must then be skipped.

Anyway some good thoughts on here. I wonder if I could survive with just Amazon Fire TV and my PC.

Kodi with Exodus loaded onto it for the odd time I want to watch a film or series perhaps a few more select addons for the odd Live sporting event e.g. MotoGP.

I wonder how long it will be until the add-ons are blocked (if that's even possible?) or people start getting knocks on the door? I've cancelled Sky and Netflix since discovering it (£43 per month saved).
Kodi/Exodus is so easy that even my Wife can use it (installed on a Fire TV stick with Yatse remote)

If you can live without it for a while it's worth cancelling and then just waiting. A couple months after cancelling we were offered the complete package (HD, Movies, Sport, Entertainment) for £25 (after they had already thrown about 15 other offers at us), a package we've managed to cling on to for now.

We just have the cheapest Sky package, and phone every year to get a discount. Last year it was free, this year £5 a month.

How do you get it for free? Lol.

I'm happy with our package for the year, £67 for Complete package inc linerental and FibreMax broadband seems good.
After our 12 months I will see what deals are out at the time and look what can be done then.

That being said reading above and hearing about the guy getting the complete pack for £25 does sting a bit smile

However this year I've let it run as i moving and don't want it after I move, I'm going to get a new tv with freesat and netflix / amazon, should see me sorted for a lot less money

Just noticed my bill had increased after my deal expired so I called to see what they could offer me, sadly not very much so I put in notice to quit, will see if they come back with a better offer but if not then less TV is maybe not a bad thing!

guys, I've been trying to explain that people who use kodi aren't just dodgy smile

anyhow, back a while ago Genesis was the addon to go for, made by the same people as genesis. It was very similar, but could save favourites and had a much nicer interface. They got rid of genesis due to people making a profit of it on ebay. I expect the same will happen with exodus eventually.
Problem will be to find a good alternative to genesis, it be that the devs stopping support for these addons is the issue for kodi, as the apps themselves can scan bucket loads of repo's, so unless all of those dry up, we should be fine.

Son moved out last year got the complete package for £25 pm , I rang up complaining that after 14 years I was being penalised for being loyal and wanted the same deal , ended up cancelling .

A few phone calls later I get £100 credit on the account and pay about £32 pm , I ask for the deal to be ongoing but they said twelve months contract , so I gave them notice there and then.

Come back from holiday this year to find two payments out of my account totalling over £100 , I rang up an queried it to be told the contract ran on after the twelve months , I kicked up a fuss and was told they would cut me off immediately which they did but it would take up to a month to get my money back , told them I would take it up with th e bank , I eventually received three refunds before the correct amount was refunded.

My sons deal ran out and he rang up and got it renewed at £25 pm for another year.!!!!!!!

Must have been on the phone for the best part of two hours sorting it out , a more incompetent customer service department I've ever encountered.

Cancelled the direct debit , and now I'm getting emails warning me of a late payment charge , they are completely useless.

Never again , at any price.
My blood pressure is rising just thinking about the st they put me through around 8 years ago now. Took nearly a year to sort. They kept cutting me off then reconnecting me claiming I'd rang them and asked them to. Similarly took forever to get refunds. Don't think I got them all and same threatening letters when I cancelled the dd. Nobody would give me a name, nobody would send me a letter so I had proof I'd requested them cut me off. It was all verbal. Amazing when I said I was recording this conversation all of sudden it got sorted.

If you haven't got it already have a look at Real Debrid for Exodus. It's a subscription url resolver (I paid £13 for 6 months) that sources all the best links for your searches. Anything you watch through Kodi is available to downoad on PC through the RD website too.

Did this but they offered full package for £18.50 a month, first 3 months free and no 12 month contract.

I've been thinking of calling them recently and doing the same i.e. cancelling to then see what they can offer.
Currently paying an eye watering £149.40 a month for phone, fibre, sports and cinema TV, HD pack and a couple of extra boxes thrown in for good measure. If I had my way I'd bin the lot, move the phone to BT and use Netflix/Amazon and a bit of Kodi as well but there would be uproar in the household rolleyes
I'm sure if I called them they would reduce it down a bit but I'd really like to feel I was getting a good deal out of it, so I'm tempted to go down the cancellation route and wait for them to call. It's not really an option to cancel it for a couple of months and then go back to them. Trouble is, if they don't call do i then have to sheepishly call them a few days before the cancellation saying I've changed my mind and that offer of a deal £10 cheaper a month sounds great now paperbag
Went on their site just now to see what 'special offers' I was able to take up on my account, all these 'special offers' involved me giving them yet more money per month, I despair.
As others have said, there is no incentive for customer loyalty these days, they're all the same, energy providers, mobile providers, TV providers etc. loyal customer for 15 years ? tough, we're gonna give this 50% one year discount and a £100 prepaid debit card to someone who has never given us a bean.

I'm surprised you're paying that much, I guess it's a couple Multiroom subscriptions or Fibre Pro? I thought we were paying pretty much everything they offer with Sky Q Silver full package and fibre at £133 a month.
