Guessing none of you ever enjoyed the marvel of using VHS to tape stuff off ITV while you went out?!
Oh yes - when there were only three (3) channels to watch!Do you remember that system where they had a barcode in the TV guides and you swiped an IR bar code reader pen across the code to programme the recordings, or you could do it manually using a sheet with all the codes? - I can't remember WTF it was called.

I vaguely remember it - never used it though. Probably after I left home and didn't have my own tv/video for a few years.Do you remember that system where they had a barcode in the TV guides and you swiped an IR bar code reader pen across the code to programme the recordings, or you could do it manually using a sheet with all the codes? - I can't remember WTF it was called.

Completely a first world problem, but having used the in-law's SkyQ box, even ? through the adverts feels tedious and frustrating and so noughties.
It's funny what you get used to - Amazon and Netflix forcing their trailers on me, and having to click to skip gets on my nerves now!
Use the voice control. ‘Skip three minutes’ job done. It's funny what you get used to - Amazon and Netflix forcing their trailers on me, and having to click to skip gets on my nerves now!
Sky sent me a message saying they had an amazing offer for me as they were “missing me”.
Went on the online chat and the final offer, before the chat crashed, was Sky entertainment, HD, kids, boxsets and full sky sports for £28 for 18 months keeping my old SkyHD box.
I turned them down at renewal time for £32, but now the F1 season is growing close I am getting twitchy and my eldest wants to watch NBA which is on Sky now. They won’t do SkyF1 only for £10 but are reducing full Sports to £10.
Has anyone managed to get it any cheaper recently?

Last time I went with them, that was what they offered me - after I'd left and gone through the usual rigmarole. I took it then. Once the period was over they only ever offered £32 a month for the same package - I've not been with them now for almost 2 years and I've only JUST stopped getting "final great offer" emails... They never once got it back down to £28 a month.Went on the online chat and the final offer, before the chat crashed, was Sky entertainment, HD, kids, boxsets and full sky sports for £28 for 18 months keeping my old SkyHD box.

£28 I thought was decent for what I watched then. Depends how it compares to what you were paying before, perhaps, as to how good a deal it is for you.
So best part of 4 years after starting this thread I’ve gone and done it again...
The greedy buggers upped my bill again this week by another £5 to take it to a shade under £75 per month, it was £5 too far so I’ve cancelled.
Luckily this time around we have Virgin fibre to the door so instead of haggling and awaiting better offers I’ve signed up with them.
Got what I think is a pretty good deal which consists of 100mb broadband (previously had less than 10mb) , basic channels (big deal) plus, drama and documentaries and two V6 boxes. Also got free installation and free setup on both boxes so all in the total cost is a little under £45 per month for the first year and a decent saving over my previous Sky package as well as 10x faster internet.
I’m pleased though slightly worried what Virgin may attempt to do to my house to wire it, but they have arranged a pre-installation meeting to run through it and hopefully I’ll be able to cable it myself.
Does anyone know how the second box connects, is it just Cat5? And as we are fibre to the door does this mean it’s just a fibre into the router which then feeds the main box via cat5?
Cheers

We currently have:
Entertainment: £19
Box Sets: £1
Kids: £1
Sports Complete: £13
Sky Cinema: £11
HD: £1
Go Extra: Free
So £46 for essentially everything you can get on a non-Q box aside from extras like BT Sport. With Netflix and the upcoming Disney+ for around £13 a month via or Roku we will be ditching Cinema and Box Sets, and when F1 TV eventually becomes available we will move away from Sky entirely.
Starting to feel like a pretty outdated business model, which is presumably why they've been keen to integrate Netflix and Disney+ directly into Sky Q.

Having been very lazy I fell into the trap that Sky set with end of agreement price increase and didn’t notice that we were paying £100 / month for Sky Q plus 2 mini boxes, sports, cinema, kids and box sets. So, gave them a call and they offered a new 18 month contract at the reduced price of £14, which represented a 35% increase over my previous ‘contract’ payments (20 years loyal customer counts for nowt).
Told them what to do with that and so got through to cancellations, who went through everything I was going to be missing and did make the price lower at £75 / month for the same set of channels. I wasn’t particularly happy so went and cancelled (possibly in a hope that they may make a better offer before my months notice is up!).
Postman just knocked on the door and handed over a large folded box from Sky so that I can return their equipment, which immediately got a few groans from the other half as she’ll miss quite a few Sky Atlantic channels (she’s more of a tele addict that’s me!).
Has anyone recently had any call backs from Sky offering another deal after you’ve cancelled and before the card is switched off, or am I set to go on my knees pleading forgiveness to Sky, saying life won’t be worth living without their entertainment package at least 🙄

I tried that once and ended up going back on hands and knees before the notice period expired. I've no idea how Sky allocate their deals and bundles, I never seem to get that much of a decent offer from them.Told them what to do with that and so got through to cancellations, who went through everything I was going to be missing and did make the price lower at £75 / month for the same set of channels. I cancelled ~2 weeks ago and got a call from retentions after a about a week.
I got offered a deal for £72 ( without Q). I said I’d think about it so arranged for a call back the next day. A different person phoned back and I settled on £73 inc Q 2TB and 1 mini box.
One thing I was helpfully advised on here a few years ago was to make sure your marketing settings allow them to contact you.

We tried to get sky a few weeks back. Can't remember the fiscals but it was a January deal and seemed good. The house we are in has never had sky installed so I was looking forward to it.
They sent the card through in advance and then the installer came around. To my amazement they still have to use sky dishes! I thought that had phased out years ago. Not only that, but it has an extremely low tolerance to where it is angled. We have trees across the road out the front and that was enough to be a problem. Refused a freaking ugly extension arm thing and sent them on their way.Waste of time, now back on nowtv.
I'm amazed in this day an age they still have to resort to that. They lost a customer and frankly even if it had all worked out, I dont like the look of them.

What do you expect from satellite tv? A broadband streaming box is on the cards but has been delayed many times. Satellite has many advantages over a broadband connected box but also some disadvantages as you’ve found. They sent the card through in advance and then the installer came around. Has anyone looked at the new BT TV deal with NowTV?
