I dumped Sky some years ago and went with BT, but always ready for a change.

Decided to try the £22 BT Sky Cinema and Entertainment package add-on. I like films and my wife is keen to try the Atlantic box sets, and another channel(?).

So settled in for some arguments on the phone to keep the price low as possible. I haven't used BT Sport much so decided to offer that in PEx.

I now pay less for the Entertainment package add-on less BT Sport, and negotiations all over in <30 mins. A very pleasant voice at the other end who seemed to like her job and wanted to be helpful. The experience was not similar to similar chats with Sky.

We've found ourselves having pretty much all the subscription TV offerings. First we got Sky, then added Netflix to the Sky package, purchased Amazon Prime for quick deliveries so have Prime Video, and we recently got a free Apple TV device with our Vodafone broadband with free 12 month subscription.

Big thread bump. We have Sky - it was previously around £90 for everything but now has risen to £128 (for no reason, we were on a monthly rolling package)

I think we're going to cancel, unless they can get it back to the same price as before.

I did get an E-mail recently stating some services were going up (by in total, around £14, £1-3 increases per package, I guess inflation, fair enough). but to be hit with a £38 bill increase takes the piss.

Go to https://www.sky.com/myaccount/bill, click the down arrow by the "latest bill" total to itemise each component, then compare with last month's bill under "Previous" to see what has changed so much.

My guess is that one or more discount deals have ended.

I posted this on another thread but my bill was £93 (Movies, Sport, UHD, Boxsets, Multiroom, Broadband) and was going up to £138 over the next few months. Called them and now have exactly the same channels (albeit on new packaged eg Signature), same broadband but now with Netflix for £90.

The lady I spoke to said they can match any new customer deal you've seen on their website so I'd suggest starting there and seeing what a new customer would pay for your existing package. She then tweaked a few thing "because VIP", even though I would guess nearly all customers are classed as VIPs.

I only added Netflix because the lady told me it made the total cost a few quid cheaper because of the way the deals are applied.

Thanks for the advice both.

I think we are going to cut right down to be honest. Saving some money right now - and we barely watch TV
We have Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Disney+ so only tend to watch Discovery etc for a few hours a week.

Just debating going Free view and dropping the Sky TV all together.
I've been offered TV + HD +free box sets for 28 quid plus multiroom for 11 (we have a 2nd TV in our Bedroom) on an 18 month contract. Seems a bit more paletable. Will lose the Sports though. But to be honest never watch it (only F1 sometimes).

We've just cancelled our sky, ends in a couple of months time. They offered us half price for a new 18 month contract. Instead going with disney plus, amazon and freeview with no contracts so can pick and choose to find what fits best.

Another thread bump, similar to others in here. 16 years with Sky and we've just initiated the cancel process.

TV only, full package and two rooms has just gone up to £118 a month.. Add on Disney, Netflix, Prime, Youtube and Spotify, its all getting too much to justify. I'd say out of all of them, we watch sky the least. I'll see if they come back with a 'please stay' offer but if they don't I'm starting to look at alternatives.

Now TV? Seems good.

Which are the best streaming boxes? One room has a smart TV so think we'll be ok with the app, but the other room has an AVR so will need some sort of firestick / smart box. Any recommendations? I don't mind spending money on a good box, ideally 5.1 / atmos etc if possible, especially if I won't be paying £118 a month! smile

£118 a month and they still put adverts in! My parents cancelled theirs a few months ago as it had crept over £100 a month and they are both now retired. Interestingly they mostly watched Netflix and channels that are available on Free view anyway.

I think they just stayed with Sky for so long out of habbit and they couldn't be bothered with the hassle of changing it.

I cancelled years ago and I have been telling them to do the same, and now they have done it they admit they have not missed it for a second.

Similar here, its just a habit having Sky. I know its brilliant, but I think £100 a month was the tipping point.

Prime £8
Netflix £10
Spotify £10
Youtube £12
Disney £8

Thats another £50 on top.

You subscribe to all that? You really must get out a bit more.

Thats the issue, we actually watch very little. In order of preference..

Spotify is great, for indoors and outdoors, in the car, podcasts when dog walking etc.
Youtube, once you've gone advert free you'll never go back. The download feature is the real bonus though.
Netflix, probably most used of the TV streaming services in the house.
Prime, I can take it or leave it. Handy for the quick postage from amazon though.
Disney for the kids stuff. But in all honesty don't think I'd miss it. Probably the first to go.

Our Virgin contract is coming up for renewal in June, and I think it needs to go. We currently pay £65 and once our 'deal' ends it'll hit over £100, and 99% of the time we either watch streaming services or Freeview channels, it's gotten to the point we literally just need the internet. Even the 200mb internet is too expensive from them, we've currently got Gigabit being installed in our area, so it'll be interesting to see those prices.

I'm on 200mb and mostly freeview, £30 a month. That's good enough for me. Heard of people getting better aswel. Just phone up, cancel. The first guy cannot offer you a good deal. You have to cancel, they transfer you and at that point you'll get a good deal. (Can go further and wait for a callback but I never)

Mine will be going next month as the end of the football comes into view. I usually just lose the Sports and have to keep the crap-o-rama channels, but on the last renewal they muffed it up and nothing is under contract, so the whole lot can go.

It will be difficult next September when the football comes back, but I really want to get rid of Sky so I’ll look into Now TV for the matches I really want to watch and give the rest a miss.

I cancelled at the beginning of February - as I don't watch it and my wife only really watches the free to air channels & some discovery channels.

I had a few calls from Sky and offers, when I said that the most I would be prepared to pay was £4 a month they got the message....

I replaced the sky box with a Freesat box and the wife is not happy - half of the time it doesn't supply a picture at all unless I manually power cycle it. After a power cycle it sometimes gets stuck on the logo screen which can be remedied with another power cycle.

The Freesat box is plugged into an Onkyo amp via HDMI - I have tried different ports but the behaviour is always the same (Note: other devices Xbox, Firestick, Blue-Ray all work fine through the amp).

Not sure if the Freest box is faulty or just ste.

I've just ditched our two Humax Freesat boxes in favour of a new aerial, distribution system and using the TV's Freeview tuners. Got used to the different EPG pretty quickly.

The main TV has a built in Freesat tuner too just in case, just no facility to record.

Yes, my experience is the boxes are glitchy.

I’ve got a Roku streaming box. Super easy to use (which I like). I also have Now TV on it. Initially got it for Nikolodean for daughter (£3.99 a month for kids pack), but they merged the kids pack with the standard stuff (sky one etc), so now I get all of that as well for the same price. I don’t watch it very often but it is very easy to use and just works. There are ‘live’ Chanel’s, streamed via the internet as well as on demand stuff.

Hope that helps.

It does indeed thanks. Roku sounds like what I'm after, saying that most of them do
