not sure on that they paid about 6-7 million a season and made 50 million a year off the TG brand.

Amazon are paying 40 million a season, are they really making hundreds of millions of this, I doubt it. I just wish they had used the money better, rather than destroying cars pointlessly because they can.
Amazon Prime subscribers spend $100 billion a year in the US alone with Amazon, and a Prime subscription is worth $600 in extra revenue per customer.

If they get 400,000 new subscribers (0.5% of US subscriber base), say, then it's good news, and tbh Amazon don't need to make hundreds of millions, they want more Prime subscribers, so they can take over the world.

That's what it's about. TGT doesn't need to make a profit, it's a way to get Prime subscribers.

Re rigged races. Yes of course they have to be that way as otherwise every single one would finish with one miles ahead.

It would be a refreshing change if they did do one wher one of them finished so far ahead that they'd end up leaving because they're bored of waiting.

Must admit the military stuff is what I've missed most about TGT.
I had more than enough of the military stuff during that 1st season episode in the Jordan special forces training facility
The difference is of course that top gear had Ministry of defence involvement as it was involved with BBC whilst the grand tour doesn’t. So on top gear we got great episodes like the stuff mentioned above and the typhoon race and others with the Royal Marines.

Amazon although having a bigger budget doesn’t get access like this, so they ended up with still wanting military based segments but having to do stuff like the disasterous Jordan episode.

To me, it’s the BBC involvement which is missing from the grand tour, the production and editing and polish and links it gave them to loads of british institutions which all went together to make it a quintessentially british show which sold well abroad. TGT seems to be floating around mid Atlantic with a big budget but not really sure what it is.

I worked in military media and PR for two years - simply being a BBC product had no influence over the MoD making assets available for Top Gear.
Requests were submitted same as they were/are for any other filming and then assessed on merit taking in to account cost, safety, benefit to the MoD in terms of public engagement and the reputation/image of the service involved. (Obviously the Fiesta beach landing on Top Gear was a dead-cert as it involved Royal Marines and the chance to be on TV, so nothing else mattered).
Granted, the BBC presents very strong cases for involvement compared to other media outlets so they always will be top of the pile. It's because they are good, not because it's the BBC. Same for the 007 franchise.
I suspect being part of a global product now, TGT has to be a bit more careful about being seen to align itself with a nation's military, and vice versa.

Must admit the military stuff is what I've missed most about TGT. Clarkson getting blown up in a Range Rover Sport by a Challenger 2 tank. Clarkson taking part in a Royal Marines amphibious assault with a Ford Fiesta. The shenanigans involving that drug dealer's Evo. The Boxster and SLK in Norfolk vs the Irish Guards. The Exige on track at Dunsfold vs the AH-64 Apache.

That said, I think the last time I laughed myself silly at CH&M was the home-made ambulances challenge... Mrs P6B found it equally hilarious even though she was about to go into hospital for an op!
Horses for courses - I enjoyed the military stuff but thought the ambulance challenge was one of the weakest TG episodes. The ambulance challenge felt like a single gag stretched way too long.

Maybe it was BECAUSE of the stress over Mrs P6B's health at the time that we found it so funny. I'll have to go back and rewatch it.

They were all as dull as ditchwater to me.

This I found funny, especially when Hammond launched his "patient" through the "hospital" window biggrin

Well I liked the last episode. It is brain off TV without resorting to TOWIE etc etc. Sure some of it is a little lacking, but so what. Worse things happen at sea.

Don't fking watch what you don't not want to not like before coming in here slagging off what you don't want to not watch anyway.

(I happen to agree with you. I just thought I'd do everyone a favour and get the flaming out of the way early)

It's a daft premise though. It's utterly stupid to suggest that a 1967/8 (ish) 420G, in its 49/50th year, should be even remotely reliable. It's like saying your Grandad failed to win the 100m sprint.
Even the XK8 was something like 20 years old.
A million German cars have been scrapped in that time...
But wait, I've said too much.... wink

So in summary on this thread.

You can’t post that you don’t like the grand tour
You can’t post that you shouldn’t watch it if you don’t like it
You can’t post that you shouldn’t post that people shouldn’t post that you shouldn’t watch it if you don’t like it,

Perhaps it’s easier just for people to post their opinions on the show and if you don’t like hearing other people’s views good and bad, then stay off the thread.

It really does! Fingers crossed.

Guests I’d happily watch instead of skipping as well. Anthony Joshua and Bill Goldberg. Clarkson is a brave guy if he decides to take this piss out of Bill, ha ha. biggrin

If you don't like challenging a point don't reinforce it.
Or something wink
