Mallard wouldn't see which way a class 387 went to suggest other wise is bonkers. Steam trains are slow at acceleration.
From a standing start, yes - but the faster they go, the more horsepower they make, and the better able they are to put it down. I've seen enough of it with Bulleid Pacifics outdragging Siemens and Bombardier units here in Surrey...

Thoroughly enjoyed last weeks episode. Watched it in the proper 8-9pm slot last night. The MILF rig was funny.

I have time for Anthony Joshua despite not being a boxing fan in any way, have seen him on a few things and he comes across well.

The lancia/audi piece was sublime, the slowmo shots of the 037 in on gravel were fantastic. I love group B and never knew Lancia got up to such shennanigans and that Rohrl never wanted to be world champion. More of the same please. Can they do one about the peugeot/lancia battle a few years later please.
MILF @ Bruntingthorpe?

"Audi won the world championship in 1982 with this VERY car actually"

Yes Mouton definitely contributed to the constructors, but it's not Rohrls who won the Drivers championship.

It's not untrue, but it's not what people would expect laugh

...and I have absolutely no doubt that a full fire-breathing anti-lag Group B car, in the hands of a truly Godly driver, would stomp all over today's WRC nonsense. However, to a merely average rally driver, today's cars will be far easier to drive.

Re the issue of WRC cars looking nothing like production cars - I grew up in the era of Paddy Hopkirk etc, and I do miss the days of pretty much bone-stock Mini, Citroen etc road cars flat-out on the Monte Carlo...
Group B cars were slower over a stage then the Impreza/Evo era WRC cars

They wouldn’t see which way the latest cars went after 4 or 5 corners on even a tight twisty stage.

Agreed, I think a large dose of 'rose tintedness' was employed.

But they were 'fire breathing' remember so that has to count for something rolleyes

So what we are saying is that modern cars with modern tyres, modern suspension, modern electronics, modern diffs and gearboxes, modern turbo technology, etc., are faster than cars of 35-odd years ago when all these things were in their infancy?

Who'd have thought it, eh? rolleyes

Wessex's are indeed rapid. Its all about torque curves, those who are struggling think of wlwvtric cars irt tesla massive torque available all the time. The effect on the move would ve less than a standing start granted, but I'm 100% that 90% of emus would hit their top soeed quicker than a steamer side by side starting at the same time speed. This is electricitys trump car. So much torque that the desiro 444 and 450 emus are limited to 60% max power output for 'passenger comfort' and current draw......lol

I've started treating it as a magazine.

I watched the Lamborghini review, then the 037/Audi bit (an 037 just went for $450k) then went to bed. The next day I watched conversation street through to the end, watching the Lancia/Audi bit a second time. It's much better on my projector but I don't have prime linked to that so it's far to much arsing around with torrents to be worth it.

I really enjoyed the latest episode.

The rally stuff, was fantastic. It was all before my time so I wasn't aware of it until watching the epsode. Loved it.

And the refuelling bit.. well it had it all for me...

An old Skoda, specialised airport vehicles and to top it all off, a Rascal van!

I thought it was a good episode. Better than pretty much everything before it, which is welcome as some of it has been poor, but I'd be very disappointed if we didn't have TGT.

The Rallying min-documentary was JC as his best. I wish Amazon would commission him to do some more car related documentaries. Same with May tbh. Not so fussed about Hammond.

I agree with everyone praising the last episode. I can't say I thought the refuelling bit was great, but it wasn't awful at all, however, the crowning glory was the Lancia/Audi Rallying piece. That was superb.

A proper return to form and shows what Clarkson is capable of, which makes all the utter dross they've been putting out for a while even more frustrating!

Fingers crossed there is more like that and less of the mindless idiocy and intelligence abusing guff that the first series and the first couple of episodes of this series displayed.

They have given me hope that they can still do it. More please!

Last series James May piece on the Ford GT was equally good. They have been my favourite sections of the Grand Tour.

These days I tend to watch a couple of segments. I don't really care for the fast car reviews anymore. It's just copy and paste from one car to another.

Best episode by far. Actually, make that best episode ever. And I'd almost given up on TGT.

I liked the way it wasn't just centered around a film where "we rejoin the action...". It just felt busier, faster paced, more entertaining. The Lambo review was good...it was informative about how the car drove and felt, and Hammond actually came across as natural and likeable, rather than trying to make too much of an effort as I think he sometimes does. But please, let the Stigette have her say. A few questions in the studio from JC as he reveals the lap time would be great...in the same way that Harris usually says a few extra words on TG.

The MILF was funny too, a bit silly, yes, but still funny. And it was good that they managed it in the end...far more entertaining than just the enormous staged fireball that I was expecting. And I'm sure it was a bit hairy getting on and off that yellow truck thing, so fair play to them.

Convo street...best one yet. Genuinely entertaining.

Celebrity F-Off...fast forwarded as usual. I have zero interest in boxing or boxers. Please bring back Celebrity Braincrash...at least it wasted less of the show.

And the rally bit. Oh my. Superb. JC can be such a bloody good presenter when he's not playing the fool. He's incredibly watchable, clearly passionate, but somehow manages to put himself on the sofa with you, and give the impression of being as amazed as you the viewer by the facts that he is presenting. It was the same for his piece on Senna on TG, the programme he did on IK Brunel, and even the SAAB bit on TG. I wish wish wish they did more stuff like this, it really is incredibly good TV.

And bloody hell that red 037 he drove was an incredible looking thing. It looks like it was designed by committee...there's no singular flow, theme or purpose to the body like an E type, a 911, an Aston or even a Defender. It's just a random collection of different bits all thrown together but my god does it work. Absolutely bloody lovely.

Finally got round to watching the latest episode and it didn't take long for them to blow a car up. Why?!

Last week's episode was very good, the best yet by GT.

Good car review, innovative car-to-car refuelling, decent chit-chat with fewer dad jokes, okay guests, and a solid rally homage.

Loses a point because much of the content had been done before (on the BBC and elsewhere), but still an impressive score of 8 / 10.

I do wish Clarkson would do more of the 'serious' stuff, the rallying piece was a real return to form.

Did you not ever watch Keystone Cops or Laurel and Hardy? okay, you are maybe too young, or maybe not. They blew up cars, cars fell apart, people fell off cars.... to make people laugh.

100+ years later, it’s the same thing. It still makes people laugh.
