The Grand Tour

They respect and admire the things special to you, and have grown to appreciate them themselves. Many people don't have this relationship between generations, And in fact generally regard what the older generation like as being 'uncool'. If only it wasn't this way, we wouldn't have to put up with some of the bilge on the radio.....
I bet if you asked your neighbors kids they wouldn't have a clue who these 'old men' were.
Out of interest, would they have recognised Copeland if they passed him on the street do you think? The Police were a massive band, but substantially differently profile and fan base to the Floyd.
No. To be honest I wouldn’t have recognised him either and he is quite distinctive looking.I bet if you asked your neighbors kids they wouldn't have a clue who these 'old men' were.

Cool guy enjoyed the interview first one I’ve watched this season.

The fake numbers on dashboards. "216" on the GT dash. Mays Civic said 130ish IIRC on the banking.
Maybe it was showing KPH instead of MPH?On the practice run it's clear he's at 60mph.
And on the faster vibration blurry run it's around just under/on 80mph.
The biggest difference (and the biggest loss) in the translation from Top Gear to Grand Tour is the subtle humour.
This is how a puerile joke was slipped into TG:
...whereas in the Grand Tour, we have Clarkson making phone calls to "Vagina" and lingering on a not particularly funny pair of slippers with "ANUS" written on them; they are also much happier to resort to plain old pointless swearing. I'm not offended, but it does mean that I can no longer settle down with the nephews to watch an episode. It brings very little to the show, so I don't know why they do it.
I'll still watch, just without the young 'uns, which is a bit sad really.

It's been getting subtle again though. The name on the side of the refuelling lorry wasn't even remarked upon. carl_w said:

Stuart Copeland was an innovator, Nick Mason was a drummer in a good band.
Stewart Copeland also had a post-Police career doing movie, TV and game soundtracks including The Equalizer and Spyro the Dragon. And of course... Droids https://youtu.be/riIOiNq0RHk?list=PLx1UA5PiBi5rVuS...

Yeah, I...have a keen interest in music... I can’t name any bassists (except Lemmy)
Really?! Not one?Bootsy Collins? Pino Paladino? Mark King? Mick Karn? Flea? Jaco Pastorius? John Deacon? Geezer Butler?
These are ones that popped into my head straight away and I don't know one side of a bass guitar from another.

Because Americans are deemed to be thick and don't 'get' subtle humour? Sorry 'Humor'.This is how a puerile joke was slipped into TG:

Another really good episode, thats 3 in a row now! I didn't blame Hammond at all for not running the wall, it was genuinely dangerous. I notice this series the fellas are doing some pretty dangerous things these days!
The banking looked very dangerous - I'm amazed they take such risks. I thought parts of the ski run with the Jags looked risky too. While I loved the Mason /Copeland thing, I still don't think any car programme needs to be a chat show about anything other than cars.
Even if the guests next week are Dynamo and Penn & Teller.
And music isn't as important to today's youth as it was to us. I'm in my 50s and when saving up for a single was something you did music was important, it had value. It was the language of rebellion, of fashion, tribalism.
Today when you can say "Alexa play ... anything that's ever been recorded", music doesn't define you in the way it did. My kids will be picky about what they play but not so much about what the listen to.
I was struggling to justify Prime for TGT by itself, but last night I watched This is Us https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/video/detail/B01N9ELK5... and it became worthwhile.
How many episodes in the series of TGT? Wikipedia shows nine for this series so Feb 2nd may be the last one. I note there is a new Top Gear trailer out (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4DDDW3XCUQ) so let's hope there won't be too much time between shows.

Nope.
In order: Parliament / 80s Paul Young & Gary Numan et al. if you hear fretless bass from that era, chances are it was him playing / Level 42 / Japan / Red Hot Chilli Peppers / Weather Report / Queen / Black Sabbath
