Porter, as you may or may not know also owns SniffPetrol. A site that I really liked when it first started. Then when the same old, same old, jokes over and over, I stopped bothering with it. Disappeared up it's own arse. We know it's not fun to spend time in the company of people who think their hilarious or cutting edge when they simply aren't.
And also a PHer. He's probably reading. FourWheelDrift said:
Alfa GTV6 I think. More of them around it seems than the standard Alfetta it's also more a Clarkson of a car as he'll think he's James Bond rushing to defuse a nuclear bomb. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_Alfetta
Pretty sure he used to own one.DoctorX said:

I can't wait for it. I really don't understand the hate it keeps getting.
In a sea of jungle celebrities, singing nobodies, baking (or cooking) blandness, moronic people watching even more moronic people watching TV and dancing daftness, I welcome anything that has even the slightest car based interest involved.
Given how us petrol heads are all branded Satan incarnate for ruining the planet, its nice for motoring to be celebrated for once. Even if it is 3 old blokes doing some scripted arse-ing about. It might be crap at times, but it isn't the kardashian family.
Don't take it so seriously and don't over analyse it, you may just enjoy it for a bit. If not, plenty of other stuff out there.
There’s a reason this little motoring show became unfeasibly successful and a big seller around the world. In a sea of jungle celebrities, singing nobodies, baking (or cooking) blandness, moronic people watching even more moronic people watching TV and dancing daftness, I welcome anything that has even the slightest car based interest involved.

You can try and recreate it all you like (see latter day Top Gear (and 5th Gear from day one ) and you are left with a little motoring show again.
Clarkson is unique, loved, hated, but compelling in ways that cannot be replicated.

Fortunately, there is a Youtube full of good car stuff. I'd like to see a panel discussion between Jay Leno,Doug DeMuro and Harry Metcalf, ideally done by following the three of them around Pebble Beach discussing the quality of the bakerlite used on a particular steering wheel.
It is interesting how good ideas take 10-15 years to catch on. In the early days of the internet, one of the key future trends was said to be the ability to multicast to a geographically disparate group of like-minded people in ways that made economic sense when conventional broadcast TV didn't (on account of being geographically focussed). Finally the internet has caught up with its own potential - car-related content is a great example of stuff that doesn't make sense on conventional TV but works well in this format.

Good idea.
The tent stuff seems too forced and stage managed. On the road they do seem to be in their natural habitat and it makes for a better program.
In my opinion of course.
