I've only seen the first 20 minutes or so of the new episode. Seems good so far but........

Mays teeth, belly, Clarksons belly and the wee ones spray painted black hair.

Time has not been kind. You would think they would put a bit of effort in.

Why do people watch stuff if they don’t like it? I don’t like soap operas, so have no comment to make on any of them, as I don’t watch them.

I think the thing is in 2hrs, you're in a similar place you've just left, similar landscape similar people.

2 hours in the UK you can be in a different county, city, country, landscape. One of the benefits of our Isle.
Nobody minds doing distance on long, unpopulated roads. Our roads are contorted, congested and largely useless. A 2 hour trip may only be 100 miles away.

Whilst I agree with what you are saying, I think the issue is that most of us enjoy watching Clarkson, Hammon and May, but sometimes over this last couple of years, what we end up watching from them turns out to be complete crap.

I like them. I loved Top Gear. I really wanted to like The Grand Tour, and I’m quite tolerant to stuff that isn’t perfect as long as it fills an hour and is interesting and/or amusing.

But even a fan like me thought most of the first TGT season was just incredibly poor TV.

The second season was much better, but even I thought the season finale ‘Mozambique special’ was absolutely st. Totally unwatchable st with only a handful of good bits over the full hour.

So I think it’s fair game to tune into something you think will be good then discover it’s crap.

I enjoyed this first episode very much, and I’m looking forward to the next one.

And I agree even more with you on that. However, if people are still complaining at this stage, then they’ll never be happy, as what we saw this week was very much in keeping with them during their TG days. They really should just switch off and walk away.

Since the beginning of this thread, people have complained about the show.

You know you’re going to read complaints on this thread, why do you still read it?

Great show! The world would be a much sadder place without TGT! Looking forward to next 12 episodes. Worth every penny...

With each passing series Hammond looks more and more like Al Pacino.

Enjoyed it, the hot lap was incredible.

It still seems slightly missing when they have to use library music rather than license a pop/rock track as per TG.

Glad it's back on, will watch them all, and read about the complaints on here.

Also given that they're binning the tent and having it more 'challenges' based it might adopt a similar format to the much superior Top Gear US that was on the 'History' Channel. Think that would be quite welcome.

Good point, it'll get me to London, Wales, derbyshire, East anglia, Yorkshire, oxen, Herefordshire, Shropshire, leicestershire, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Rutland, Surrey, Hampshire, Essex, Kent, Gloucestershire, umpteen cities, mountains, rivers, heath Land, forest.

Struggling a bit with deserts and oceans, but you can't have everything.

If my start point is say the middle of texas, after 2 hours I'll be a bit dusty in a different bit of texas. I can see the attraction though. cool

Speaking of which.........Clarkson has recently quit smoking. It appears the wisdom on here would have him back on the cancer sticks and eating toilet paper.
Indeed. It seems to me it's pretty normal for people who have given up smoking to put on weight - because they start tasting their food again, Ergo, they put on weight.

It's not about 'tasting their food'. Nicotine is an appetite suppressant.

I haven’t read the start of the thread, but as we’re now three series in I’d have thought those who hate / dislike / don’t rate etc would have given up by now. Mild criticism is fine, but deciding that the whole show, including the titles are rubbish means it’s a bit weird to keep watching.

I’ve not watched any of it since the 2nd episode of series one but having now watched episode one of the new series and it’s just painful to watch, a rehash of a much worn out formula with three middle aged bafoons.
Chose new location, chose new cars and repeat as many cliches as they can muster.

Can't agree. Never pre-judge. Many a TG was appalling drivel and, after watching the first series of TGT, I thought it was all over, it was so bad. Even the second series had far more lows than highs but this series is brilliant, thus far and I wasn't expecting that, at all.

Library music?

In the episode on Friday there were tracks by Roxy Music, The Three Corners of the Earth (one of my favourites), Tigercub, Band of Rascals, Patti LaBelle and others.

Yes, much of it sounded 'ambient electronic instrumental', but they are all bonafide tracks from various artists albums, and I imagine the choice of music was to reflect the derelict and empty parts of Detroit.

Yep.

The first TGT series was just so awful. Really awful.

I know they are listening to feedback, analysing which bits are skipped by viewers and so on, and I really hope this series is good and has cut out all the crap.

So far, so good.
