One thing I noticed about this weeks episode, they VT's are completely and unashamedly using the same cinematography tricks they used on Top Gear.
Hardly surprising given that they took most of the production staff from TG to TGT, but I guess they've stopped worrying that the BBC is going to sue them.
I've seen a few things from the old TG sneaking back in, in a just slightly modified enough to please the lawyers kind of way.
Also, I'm probably the only one that kind of liked the guest segment. Sure there were bad ones, but others were quite good. It was the same with SIARPC though.
I wonder how well you could sue someone for "cinematography tricks" as you term it. Is it an art which gave TG a specific look that defines it? Otherwise I can rather feel that every film that copies another would fall foul?Hardly surprising given that they took most of the production staff from TG to TGT, but I guess they've stopped worrying that the BBC is going to sue them.

Old Top Gear could have sued Fifth Gear for stealing the format of "Tedious consumer motoring show".otolith said:

I really enjoyed the first episode of series 3, agree with the general consensus that series 1 was crap, series 2 much improved. If the latest episode is anything to go by then Series 3 should be even better still
I'd go along with that!No cringe moments in this episode which was nice.

Going by the trailers the cringe bits will appear in later episodes. The penis jokes will be back soon.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but the BBC sold the rights to old Top Gear, including some of the presenters, to the company that then relaunched it as Fifth Gear. The sale did not include the name "Top Gear". Kind of like if, when they sold the rights to Bake Off, they had retained the name and forced the buyer to come up with a new one.
The BBC aren't suing C4 for doing Bake Off because they sold it to them. Likewise with Fifth Gear.

They didn't "sell the rights" to Bake Off. The independent company that owns the programme (and the rights) decided to 'rent' it to somebody else.Kind of like if, when they sold the rights to Bake Off, they had retained the name and forced the buyer to come up with a new one.

Really just that a car show with high production values (or a st one, like Fifth Gear or old TG) is hardly an original enough proposition to be able to sue anyone for it.Kind of like if, when they sold the rights to Bake Off, they had retained the name and forced the buyer to come up with a new one.

I was not blown away by Series 3 Episode-1.
I thought I was watching Quest or Discovery Channel, as it just seemed to be a documentary on some old factories,
with some old blokes mucking about in V8's that are irrelevent to the UK.
Also I was watching in UHD/4k but the picture quality was poor on my OLED TV. No better than HD.
I used to dislike 5th Gear, but at least Vicki comes down to earth by reviewing some fast older cars, that most people can afford and actually buy.

Wtf are you watching for then?
I asked similar and got this terse response. I agree that I’ve got no idea why someone would watch something they clearly don’t enjoy just to come onto a thread to complain about not liking it. El stovey said:

You know you’re going to read complaints on this thread, why do you still read it?
