The Grand Tour
Discussion
I’m obviously not in with the cool crowd, as I’ve enjoyed all the episodes so far. The special was exactly what I’d have expected when they were doing Top Gear, but I guess it won’t please some because it’s not on BBC2 on a Sunday night. Daft jokes, staged stunts, unsubtle references everywhere and some practical jokes.
Watched it, but during Part 1 I got side-tracked with other things and had it on in the background. I just felt that few good bits aside (Mays one liners. The rock throwing which looked genuine! Clarksons lift thing. The plucky panda. )
When they went to Bolivia, I felt that was better. And I can re-watch that occasionally if I stumble upon it on Dave. Personally, there's not many TGT episodes I want to revisit.
What's on the next one?

What i can't understand is that people who constantly find fault & ridicule this show still continue to watch it .
If i don't like a programme i don't watch it. Each to their own i guess.
Is the perfect metaphor for PH. I can just imagine posters rushing to watch it on release day and rubbing their hands together throughout while they think of witty put-downs.If i don't like a programme i don't watch it. Each to their own i guess.
I've watched both parts on Prime and I enjoyed it. Life is far too short to spend it dissecting a simple entertainment TV show.
If i don't like a thread i don't read it. Each to their own i guess.
Seriously you KNOW this thread has people complaining about the show and making negative comments, if you don’t like it - don’t read it.
Still, I suppose you need to keep your post-count up, so I'd better leave you to your argument.

Overall a watchable and enjoyable special with moments of flair (thinking more the hummingbirds, hippo and bear scenes which were genuinely quite impressive).
A few people have commented on the ability to re-watch TGT - I have re-watched season 1-2 whilst flying for work lately and IMHO the selection is good, however lacks that edge the trio had in TG. Quite a few were very enjoyable, however others felt a little laboured (completely missed out particularly dull special forces episode in South Africa). One thing I did notice was that for some of the 'challenge' episodes in general, there is less memorability and interest as there seems to be less of a challenge element in relation to the cars they are running (e.g. keeping a dying Lancia Beta running in Botswana or James endlessly working on a poorly built Chinese truck in Burma as in TG).
One reason may be that, since money isn't really an issue, there is more of an effort trying to be funny with the car selection (e.g. the 'Trump' truck), leading to episodes lighter on the technical aspects in mending cheap and inappropriate vehicles selected by the team. That and the lack of comparability in their car selection means there is less of the competitive element. The end result is that whilst having episodes filled with great scenery and production value, planned jokes are required to fill the void of some of the more of the car orientated commentary.
The format is still enjoyable, and the thought pieces regarding other aspects of the trio's journeys are entertaining (despite a slightly lazy joke about intimacy with animals in Colombia). It would be nice to do some more in the way of cheap car challenges that others can relate to (e.g. the British Leyland challenge) however it is understandable that they are trying to angle for a much more global audience now, as opposed to a few nostalgic Brits!

Does anyone else find it frequently stopping to buffer? I watch it on a system with Ethernet connection direct to the router and 80mb FTTH connection. The kids are in bed so I'm the only one online.
Only happens of grand tour. I watched a film on prime last night and it was fine.
I don't get buffering, but mine is in low resolution for the first few minutes. I've tried pausing it, but it makes no difference. Only happens of grand tour. I watched a film on prime last night and it was fine.
The picture is never 100% smooth. It's an old Firestick I've got.

Crumbs that has just ruined my hopes that it all was a tasteless TGT setup. Translator wasn't a bit fazed by it though. https://www.gettopinfo.com/top-10-facts-donkey-lov...

Just catching up, watched first two last night. I know what to expect from the show, been watching them for enough years now and I am good with it, wouldn't watch it else!!
Detroit always makes me sad to think what it once was. However I had no idea just how beautiful Colombia is.
Got to admit though when May told us the history of the Panda I immediately felt sad for the poor car!! Hopefully get chance to watch part two tonight.
My attitude is, don't over think the show, just take it for what it is, bit of silly fun with beautiful locations and some great and not so great cars (and occ bikes!).
