Useless phackt;

Tim Shaw is taller than the Empire State Building.

I met him once.
I felt inadequate - I'm only 6'2'".

And no - the cars aren't restored "properly".
Usable - yes.

I love watching car SOS and I'd be surprised if any of their work was under par as even for a TV show they do seem to go the extra mile.

Did you see the Daimler Dart episode for example? When this came out the spray booth it looked a million dollars love

Look at that E34 touring! Lovely piece of kit.

Anyone any ideas on how to get the £50k golden ticket? I have an E30 here rusting away on axle stands which has a sob story behind it.

I think Car S.O.S is pretty decent. Ok Tim Shaw is clearly playing a role and I don't doubt it adds a bit of non car nerd entertainment but Fuzz seems a knowledgable guy.

I'll be honest, I think regardless of how the shows are put together, both Fuzz Townsend and Edd China are top mechanics.. Regarding Car S.O.S., i've not seen any cars come out of the show that would make me wince!

I admit i've not seen ever episode of Wheeler Dealer (most, not all) and the only cars that really didn't work for me were the Porsche 944 and the Mazda RX7 (and perhaps the Mini), as the custom jobs they did were a bit grating.. smile

Just remember, if Car SOS didn't exist the high-water mark for this sort of telly would be Bernie and Mario's Classic Car F**k-Over.

The Fiat Dino was not bad but Tim Shaw seems to be getting worse as the series progresses.

they seem to be running out of sad cases to help as the aston martin bloke just seemed too busy running around earning internationally to fix his own car.
very off putting unless he paid for the repairs.

I've given up on this show because there's so little actual car content these days. We all know the formula, Tim Shaw is incredibly irritating, and Fuzz gets all histrionic about how bad the car is/how little time they have. Then they unveil the car in some awful over-contrived manner.

They see a car. Fuzz whines about how awful it is, Tim has a cup of tea.

They return to the workshop. Everyone whines about how awful the car is. Somebody does some grinding.

Tim goes on day-release to ps off some local tradespeople. Fuzz rotates the engine with a spanner. Somebody does some grinding.

Tim returns to the workshop with some wheels/seats/sparkplugs, and gets in the way while somebody does some welding.

The owner's family turns up and whines about how awful the car is. Tim nominates an almost impossible date for the handover.

Fuzz and the workshop crew pull another all-nighter. Somebody reattaches a rear light lens.

Tim then explains how he's going to dress up as a pirate and pretend to attack the owner's wife whilst she's at Lidl. When her husband leaps to her defence, Fuzz will run him over with the car. Ta Daa!

Family clambers into the car and everyone waves as the owner drives it straight to WeBuyAnyCar.com

I series-linked these when it first started, mainly for the Fiat 500 episode, but after watching the Merc 190SL episode over the weekend, I was stunned at the amount of work that has gone into getting that back on the road.

Yeah, there's a lot of contrived/scripted filler, but isn't that the same with any of the mainstream TV shows with a car theme - TG, TGT, WD etc.

I really like Car SOS and Fuzz is a really decent chap. He also actually gets his hands dirty rather than taking credit for other people's work, like Ant Anstead or those idiots on Goblin Worst Garage.

I must admit I really detest GWG and called them out on their contrived sales at the end of each show. In fact, there's a whole list of claims I asked them about via their social media. I touched one too many nerves though and they blocked me. The last one being why the £50k Capri they sold only made 20 at auction and why the service records included the bills from the people who really built it?

I used the like the old Wheeler Dealers and my daughter is friends with the chap who owns the e39 M5 they did. It's still going strong and sounds great.

The best thing I've watched recently though, is Retro Power on YouTube where they're building a resto-mod Escort Mk1 for Gordon Murray. Well worth checking out.

I'm not really into American cars but watch Roadkill every month and used to like Gas Monkey Garage, till they got a bit too full of themselves.

rofl

Spot on.

I guess shows like this always get a bit stale or become a bit of a parody of themselves after a while. Still watchable though, for now.

Think youre talking rubbish. I've met someone who had a family member who had a car done and had nothing negative to say about fuzz or tim.

I dispair.....not sure what people want from a TV programme. We have something, probably the only thing that is still british in its production and presentation and yet you still slag it off. Thats when we end up with shiiite like goblin works.

careful what you wish for......

If you'd read my post you'd have seen that I was slagging off the format, and the fact that there's very little actual car content in it.

Well fortunately, unless you're a Commissioning Editor, your lack of insight isn't a significant issue. smile

The fact that you know somebody who knows somebody who doesn't dislike Fuzz or Tim doesn't change the fact that I think the format is tired and uninteresting, and Tim Shaw's character is annoying.
