I thought the Cuba bit just lacked that special something that many of the "old" TG challenges had (eg the Bolivia special).

I just can't warm to Rory either....I also wish he'd stop with his jokes about some of the slower cars he drives (like mentioning that the Merc AMG GT-R beat the Smart....).
bit unfair to compare a 20 minute slot feature with an 80 minute full length special though

I enjoyed it again but agree that Reid grates a bit - seems a nice guy but quit the street speak please - "Cuba really putting all out there for us man" or similar such bks
RR is a conversation killer with his stupid comments.
you see the other two just roll their eyes at him all the time

It was OK.
6-7/10.
Cuba bit wasn't that funny
I like Rory as he does provide that younger edge but I agree sometimes he seems a bit like an excitable puppy and you're like, ok mate calm down....

Chris is getting a lot better and finding his role.

Matt excellent as always. I think they could have probably gotten another review in there and cut down the Cuba bit by 10 minutes but hey...

We all came away with the impression, Chris and Matt are ideal for the roles.
Chris was chatting off camera about the cars and pointing things out.
Matt during VT looked engroused in the ones he wasn't involved in and in between takes was sorting out scripts and chatting with Ross. Looked very professional.
Rory looked dissinterested at times.
I would agree with that as well. Rory did come across as a bit of a spare part that only came alive when the camera was pointed at him.

Not the best of the series but it was a decent hour of Sunday evening telly. I always really enjoy the car on track reviews and the GTR bit was no exception.

The Cuba bit was a bit hit and miss for me, some nice footage of the cars and the country but could have had more humour and didn't need to be as long as it was, could have left some of it on the editing room floor. Taking a Bi-turbo and a "'maro" over there seemed a bit random (even for TG) and the racing wasn't that great and didn't really prove anything. At least they didn't wreck the cars and crash them into each other whilst making penis jokes and going out of their way to offend the locals though, that was a bonus.

I'm not really a fan of the celeb part of the show but I thought Ross Noble was one of the better guests they've had on, amusing and seems to be into his motors too.

The show didn't pass the girlfriend test, I was interested to experiment as I hadn't thus far. She was mainly observing the display on her mobile telecommunications handset, and dozing...

I think this series has been great so far, there's been some duller bits, but on the whole it's been very good and easily a match for the later years of the last format - they've really pulled it out of the bag this series.

For me though, whilst in my estimate they're the measure of a normal old TG series, I wonder if they'll ever reach the heights of the 'specials', or if they'll bother, again this is only my opinion but the old format was stale long before it ended - but they could still pull a blinder once a year - will the new lot ever pull off something like the Vietnam Special? Special because it featured no cars, the bikes weren’t the focus, but it was brilliant.

Last nights show only got 1.6m viewers.

Some of that will be due to the break though (i.e. people forgetting it was back on this week). I really thought the new format would do better.

The Mercedes GTR bit was ok, but I didn't really engage with the Cuba bit and switched it off after a while. I may go back to it.

Ross Noble was fairly entertaining though.

Am I right in thinking that CHM Top Gear was BBC1 too?

Highs & lows on the specials.

Vietnam on bikes was superb. India was not.

This is still really the "first" series for the new boys.

Go on Youtube and look at the first old TG series with Jason Dawe if you want to see awkward.

The specials definately had more hits than misses, but the india special was terrible.

That's when I really went off old TG - destroying these three cars as well as destroying three more for the Argentina thing - just not funny to anyone who loves cars.

I await a new TG Special with these three - but I bet you it will be very good.

Meanwhile - roll on next Sunday!

This. You just know that CMH would have done at least one of the above and probably all four.

The new TG is better for "car people" but largely useless for those who want to watch "Last of the Summer Clarkson" and spit food and guffaw, loudly, at painfully unfunny stuff....by which I mean unfunny to anyone with an ounce of intelligence... the old TG was carcentric but aimed more at people who watch Ant and Dec's Saturday Painfulness.

Most people watch dross, constantly, they are certainly not interested in cars - cars are merely things you lease to impress the neighbours. They want slapstick, wanton damage, injury.

While I don't bemoan the demise of the sameness of the old era, I still can't help listening to Harris "eulogise" about Cuba and Maserati and think how much better Clarkson would have delivered those lines and emotions.
Clarkson's trick was that he could muse very effectively, sometimes at length and then drag the audience back in with a piece of bluntly manufactured stupidity or a cheesy grin or political incorrectness. Lots of people love watching cars being damaged and defiled, go and watch them banging open their doors in supermarkets.

I'm a member of Mensa and I like old TG...does that mean I'm average intelligence?

It probably means you are now past the age of fourteen and can enjoy whatever you like without being shouted at every week.
Notice how people who enjoyed TGT have not tried to disrupt this thread and allowed those who enjoy TG to discuss it in peace.

I'm finding this series a bit hot and cold.

I can't take to Harris at all, he's a lot better than the bullying arrogant loud mouth that started the series, but he still leaves me cold.
Matt is good and settling in to his role nicely, but the digger stuff is boring and so is the guest stuff.
Rory is just making up the numbers. It really wouldn't matter if he wasn't there.

The viewing figures doesn't surprise me, it's not a 'must watch' like Clarkson and Co are. Say what you like, love them or hate them, Clarkson and Co are popular TV. If I miss a TG, I'm not that bothered.

With regards to the latest episode, the Merc bit didn't engage with me, not sure why, but I got bored halfway through the piece. Cuba was a nothing section. And destroying sheds with diggers was.......well, not sure really, CBeebies?

In my experience, being a member of Mensa is no guarantee of intelligence, except to members of Mensa who wave it like a badge of honour that nobody cares about.

I have no idea how intelligent you are, we all like different things lng may it stay that way.

That is a sentiment I agree with. It, however, is far from the sentiments of your previous post.

I enjoyed the "old" TG, I can't bloody stand Ant & Dec either.
