Where does Jay Kay get the money from to pay for his impressive car collection? Can't imagine it's from sales of his music, does he have other "strings to his bow"?
Id says its perfectly possible with 25 million albums sold and 10 world tours under his belt.Maybe it's hat sales that he gets all his money.
I certainly couldn't name a single album of theirs.
And yet according to JK his latest album is "basically no1 all over the world".....
Really? Or is that in some specialist music category?

I wrote and presented a film about it, if anyone is interested. A fascinating story in detail (and I had a laugh making the film) -

That was way better than the TG Bernie interview segment. TG should do stuff like that.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LLGKbCSlF44

There will be a lot of bands you've never heard of that are very successful.

As above I was a little surprised Jay Kay was still wealthy - I would have guessed that with the bands peak in the 90s long gone and his taste for the expensive things in life he'd be broke these days, or maybe selling off his car collection, he must be doing will out of the current classic car bubble.
Seems not, Times Rich List has him at £40m.
Maybe despite all the nose candy he's a smart guy, I know he missed out on a McLaren F1 new because he invested the money in his own Studio instead, if he writes, produces and records his own stuff he's be making a lot more than the latest Pop Princess.

As he likes cars, and you like cars it's probably more noticable what he spends his wealth on.
Eddie Jordans yacht probably cost more than JK's car collection.

I don't get what everyone's problem is with JK. He's a car nut and produces and sings easy listening funk. OK he's a minor irritant but nothing more. I'm sure I'd have a trace of smug about me if I had his wealth and car collection.
Jealousy. Pure and simple. I will say sunglasses indoors is fking stupid though.Fwiw. Last night's episode was bilge.
Watched every episode. Some good moments which showed some promise. Need to bin Harris and Reid if they don't want to lose every non car geek viewer. Overall I think it leaves a lot to be desired and it's only thought of as ' good' on here because TGT was a disappointment and the Evans series was complete shart.
2/10 for last night
5/10 for the whole series

I've met him and had a drink with him in Amsterdam, he was really nice as it goes! never been a great fan of his music though.I like JK and was very much into Jamiroquai back in the 90's when I was into Acid Jazz, but even with the best will in the world he did come across as incredibly smug on Top Gear last night. Gratingly so.
I'm not for one moment suggesting that his success isn't deserved, or I could do better, it's just how he came across to me that's all.

I don't get it either but I've only ever seen him interviewed on Top Gear. He's come across fine on those but perhaps other people have seen a lot more of him somewhere? I don't get it he seems fairly chilled and obviously a proper car person which is all the better.

I don't mind his music, I can only speak for myself here, but I remember him in the late 90s and early 2000s (via the magic of TV, not in person) back when he was taking too many drugs etc and he was an egotistical knob - picking fights with reporters and being just the most unbearable arrogant wker - the stereotypical coke head. There’s a degree of self-loathing there I think because I’ve had my issues in the past. The difference is that he’s supposedly clean now, has been for more than a decade, but he’s not lost the arrogance, maybe it’s his oddly monotone speaking voice (for a singer) that hides his humour but the man seems to know no humility or empathy.
I’ve never met him in real life so I don’t know how the real person compares to the media persona, but he does have a habit of rubbing people up the wrong way, the reporter who was known for being one of the calmest nicest people in the business who headbutted him (self-defence M’lud) to the young Chef who set about his Enzo after he was so rude to him.
I’d like to think he’s a nice guy in real life, but this isn’t real life is it – it’s TV.
Cayman review was OK, but didn't say anything that hadn't already been widely said. Couldn't care less about the guest, the off-road thing. The boat was boring. I didn't particularly like it the last time they did it, but at least then the contraptions were amateurish enough to be amusing.
To establish: I have enjoyed this series overall. MLB and CH I enjoy, RR a bit of a fifth wheel. But I thought this episode was one of the weaker ones.
I´´m not really bothered about the Cayman; the offroader was good fun; the cranes bit was filler; JK was inoffensive but (as has already been mentioned) a bit smug; Cuba was alright, at least they were having fun; the EJ + Bernie interview just didn´t seem to fit and anyway EJ bugs the tits off me; the Rodius boat was a bit of a wasted opportunity - Clarkson/Hammond/May/Wilman would have made much more about cocking about and getting stuff wrong, plus their inherent chemistry would have lifted it. Rory in the uniform just looked like a male stripper and they never really mentioned it.
Still, Sunday will be a quieter evening now and I´m actually looking forward to the new series, whereas the next TGT not so much.

I 100% disagree with the bold bit. CHM are just painfully obvious these days. The new boys actually made it seem genuine and fun. The fake peril is just ridiculous it's so transparent that it's just not even amusing in the slightest. Their Caribbean episode of TGT was perhaps the most cringeworthy thing I've ever seen. I was sort of referring to their heyday ten or so years ago rather than the later repeat-to-fade episodes. I was also implying that TGT wasn´t all that, and agreed about the Caribbean skit - the Maserati one too.I enjoyed the whole series and looked forward to Sunday nights. Agreed that there were fewer comedic (scripted moments) but I prefer the fact that there aren't caravans getting blown up or skid mark penises being drawn... (oh, and the wanton, ego led vandalism that wrecked a perfectly good Porsche 928 GT in Argentina).
I wish them well with the next series. They must have taken a long hard look at the shouty Evans monster that the show had morphed into and got back to decent cinematography, real car enthusiast presenters and a more grown up approach.
