Absolutely brilliant. The chemistry between LeBlanc, Harris and Reid is great, the new studio looks much better and the filmed segments were just as slick and well done as ever.

The new GT86 Star in a Reasonably Fast Car segment was good too, mixes it up a bit and the guest stays around a bit longer to join in. Was good with yesterday's guest who was great fun (had a good chat too).

On the basis of yesterday I'm rating it above the Grand Tour.

Oh and those going, wear comfy shoes. We were standing from 12:45 to 7:15. It ran far longer than they were expecting, but it's a new studio and setup so a few kinks to work through.

And it gets quite warm in the studio, but was chuffing cold waiting around outside for a couple of hours.
I saw people queueing up by the hangar about 2.45 ish but hadn't realised that you had been there so early. So where did they keep you? Just standing outside?

I am back there on Saturday but on the track side of the barrier they put up. If you see someone wearing either a Lexus or Toyota jacket say hello. Be good to break up the boredom lol.

What was the lap time for the star? If you don't mind saying of course. I've not been told yet although I do know what some of the times were last week.

Sorry chaps, spent a while at the Premier Inn with my sister-in-law in the end. hehe

I think you'll all be pleasantly surprised with this new version of Top Gear. It differs more from what has gone before it than CE's vision did from JC's. I don't want to give away too much (unless you folks would like that!), but there's a brand new studio (one that I would guess is smaller than previous) and the new 'Reasonably Fast Car' is indeed a shiny new red Totota GT86. I think this choice of vehicle will provide much entertainment over the course of the series!

This episode mainly consisted of a super-duper car test, followed by two-part challenge-based road trip for the trio. I really, really enjoyed it and am very much looking forward to watching it on TV, without being damp and having a sore back from standing still all day. biggrin Can't wait for the second episode now!

i was in the studio during the day Wednesday when it was filmed, the new studio does look good but after the filming of extra gear which I also go into we didn't get out until gone 10pm having started queueing in the car park from around 1pm. 9 hours on my feet sleep plus no proper food or drink on offer.

Chris harris is my favourite out of all of them during the filming of extra gear he turned round a few times to talk to us and ignored producers to finish explaining different elements of the la fararri and the lotus espirit that were in the studio.

ETA - The wind and rain was so cold whilst waiting outside to get in the hangar !!

Sounds like they are doing the right thing by making it different enough not to be a copy of old TG. Last season just seemed like a tribute act with too many presenters. If they can put enough of their own stamp on it then it may well succeed on its own. I don't think TG (or TGT for that matter) will ever sell as well as old TG.

Jay Leno's Garage is the current winner IMO smile

Positive reviews then from 3/4 separate PH attendees. Which is very good indeed, gives us plenty to look forward to!

Rumours are the new reasonably priced car is a GT86 though which is slightly better.

Confirmation for 4 people above that this isn't just a rumour wink

Just to clarify, the format is still the same. Sofa, film, lap, SIARFC, film, chat, film, finish.

But it just gels so much better than before. The chemistry is very good between the three.

That sounds so much better than the rally cross crap.

I suspect Harris was behind this choice.

I'm glad to see a few positive reports so far from PHers who have been to the show.

The trailer to me looks good and more along the lines of what TG should be; testing a range of cars with a humorous/entertaining slant and not just fking around for an hour.

And the removal of one of them was instantly going to improve the show.

I'm hoping (and strongly suspecting) Top Gear v3s2 will be a big success because it will put that egotistical ginger tt even further back into his box (and all those people who backed him saying 'he's a true petrol-head' will go fk themselves).

I hope that daily he is bitterly regretting reneging on his TFI Friday revival commitment and dumping on Channel 4 to take up the 'better offer'.

Just one more time for the irony....

Can you not let the Chris Evans obsession drop? It's done and dusted for everyone else.

Are you not amazed Top Gear is back on the TV after telling us a few weeks ago that they hadn't even filmed it? You were certain and arguing strongly about that too.

I got to the bottom of that one. If you recall I was basing my information on the fact that my friend who is involved with the company who used to provide outside broadcast filming equipment for Top Gear had received no new work from them since the previous series had finished.

Turns out the BBC wanted to go 4K with filmed segments of the latest series and my friend's company didn't have the equipment so weren't contacted. My information was incomplete and I was wrong - hand up!

No, seriously! My karma is good regarding the ginger tt at the moment.

Last word on the subject - what a lot of people don't know about him (although you don't have to dig too far to find evidence) is that he's lost a lot of people a lot of money (himself included), going back as far as the Virgin radio/SMG days (who at least successfully managed to sue him and recover most of their losses).

For all his public facing success he is a liability - someone who initially invests heavily in projects in terms of his time backed by other peoples' money, but then he gets all pissy and walks off because he isn't as good at his job as he initially gives the impression of and doesn't like it when he is asked by his backers to show some quality because the job has turned out to be harder than it looks, or he has lost interest and found a 'better offer'.

Top Gear (and his bailing on TFIF revival) was the latest high-profile example, this time at the licence-payers' expense.
