Not one you, in general the audio is pretty shocking for a BBC production.
Audio was fine for me coming through a dish pointed at 28.2E, Dolby PLII which seems to be the best the BBC can manage over the Astra satellite at least with my Xtrend box.

edit to add: I rather enjoyed it with the obvious pay off that the lead is going to save the UK with an A bomb (I hope) only guessing, no spoilers just my own thoughts!

Well, I enjoyed it smile I like the slow pace. Makes a change from some of the overly frenetic tv I've mostly been watching.

It's added to the weekly must watch list (which currently comprises The Expanse and Big Bang Theory).

Who's the lead actor? Trying to be John Hurt?

It was an establishing episode, the plot will develop next week. It was just falling into place a bit by the end

I was wondering when PH would pick up on this
Jaguar was an SS cars model name in 1936
yes The SS Jaguar 2½-litre saloon launched in London September 1935.

I will watch episode 2 but as several have said, the lead actor and his sidekick James Cosmo did mumble a lot.

I enjoyed that and also coming on here afterwards for all the errors to be pointed out!

Well you would be keeping your voice down talking about the resistance with all those Germans about.

Twice I saw a sign saying "Air Raid Shelter, 50m Thataway"

Obviously, it was in metres, because the Germans have arrived.

So why are they still running air raids then?

I was very disappointed. Apart from the obvious (anorak alert) whinge about the wrong type of Spitfire right at the start, I soon got very irritated by the appalling audio quality, and by the excessively gloomy lighting of nearly every scene.

After ten minutes I lost patience, and flipped over to watch Aviva Championship rugby union - much more exciting !

The audio was fine for me and the picture was great on the relatively poor equipment I outlined earlier in this thread. TV is a 550 quid Panasonic amazon special.

There are so many big dramas recently where the audio quality has been questionable.

I'm sure you've got a great set up, so have I (Denon 5.1 amp, Kef IQ series). However 99% of people found Sam Riley mumbled a lot which made following what he was saying very difficult, the Germans spoke more clearly. wink

My other half said "don't start" when I groaned at the Mk IX spitfire in the opening piece smile
You're quite right, give her a gentle slap with a wet fish. FFS, they have a choice of Mk1s now. Dire effort...

Unfortunately the mumbling audio (I could hardly understand a word the American woman said in the pub...) and gloomy lighting rather ruined this episode for me...

It seems to be some luvvy thing these days, to have such low audio levels at one moment, then loud music the next.

I enjoyed it - but then I loved the book when I read it years back and so. I rather expected I would.

I had no issues with the audio, FWIW. Maybe sound through an amp rather than through the TV (with the usual rubbish speakers so prevalent these days) is the reason....?

No, an amp wasn't the cure. A lot of actors were doing their best "I'm hard / cool" whispers.

The mumbling/unclear sotto voce was a bit of a distraction; it seems to be a thing now. I realise having everyone projecting away like Brian Blessed turned up to 11 would be inappropriate but there's a happy medium to be struck.
