OJ - Made in America
Discussion
Just finished this after watching the series of Netflix featuring David Schwimmer and John Travolta. I was constantly googling stuff during it as I didnt, couldnt believe that certain items were true. Confirmed again in this BBC take on it.
I thought the first episode was a bit slow, but then it gathered pace. The last one was good showing the decline in his life after it and how the court got revenge in the robbery. I felt a tad sorry for him at that point, it didnt sit right with myself but then I remembered just what he had done.
A very, very likeable character and I never realised just how huge he was in America.
Some of the tactics deployed by the defence team were nothing short of brilliant. I'll be honest there is no way I would have been swayed by them, but after 8 months on a jury (which is frankly ridiculous) I can see why people just wanted it over, even if it was only because they thought the evidence had been tampered with and he hadn't been given a fair trial.
I'm not sure if he can face prosecution for this again, but for the families sake it would be nice if he told the truth, even if only on his death bed.

He was convicted of the murders in a civil court and wrote the book If I Did It. Which is as close as I think you'll get.All said, I am tempted to buy the book...

I'm pretty sure the victims families have the rights to it so you could buy it in clear conscience.I am just trying to find out if its all based on the BBC doc or if its all in his words. I understand the final chapter is the confession.

In theory its ghost written and he just put his name to it for some cash but you can't but help think its based on fact.I am just trying to find out if its all based on the BBC doc or if its all in his words. I understand the final chapter is the confession.

He seems a very charming man, disarmingly so. I found it compelling viewing. As much about the social situation in the USA as anything.
I also never knew just how famous he was.
But yeah, the defence successfully changed the trail from 'The people v OJ' to 'the black community v LAPD' - that's how they won it

I was barely a teenager at the time but remember watching the Rodney King beating, the Korean lady shooting and of course the Bronco car chase on the news.
The defence team was brilliant, particularly the lead Johnnie Cochran and the DNA guy (the young-ish white dude). Adding to the social situation at the time, the mishandling of evidence and Mark Fuhrman, the prosecution team never had a chance.
OJ trying on the gloves - as someone in the documentary mentioned - he was in full Naked Gun mode, playing it up in front of the camera and the jury. A very sinister and manipulative man.

Yep. the book was purpoterdly written by another author but the publishers agreed with OJ to give him cash if he said he wrote it. OJ was strapped for cash and stupidly agreed.Ascayman said:

I wish people would stop saying this, they were a disgrace to their profession and to their race. How they could sleep at night I have no idea. The lawyers job is to get the best result for the client - and that means even if they knew 100% he was a pedophilloc monster child killer. The law states you are entities to legal council. I'm not sure what happens is every lawyer refuses to represent you ?

Just found this thread and see that it has left iPlayer
Remember watching the bbc coverage of the trials with my Dad and would have been interested in this.
Assume it won't reappear and will no go to Netflix/Amazon or somewhere?
